Mega Buzz: September 20

I can't believe Bones killed Sweets! What can you tell me about the funeral? — HeatherAs executive producer Stephen Nathan promised, it's certainly nontraditional. But it's right in its own way. Look for a particularly moving eulogy from Brennan that sums up the impact Sweets had on her life (including her marriage to Booth). And even though you should keep the tissues handy, Booth's contribution to the ceremony should be good for at least one smile.

Q&A Interview with BONES Executive Producer Stephen Nathan about Season 10

Earlier today, TV Tango participated in a conference call with BONES Executive Producer Stephen Nathan, who dished a few details about Sweets' death and pending funeral, discussed the rest of Season 10, and talked about the show's upcoming 200th episode.

On Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT, FOX will premiere the "Lance to the Heart" episode of BONES. To find out who framed Booth for murder, the Jeffersonian team, with the help Special Agent James Aubrey, continues to investigate who is behind a conspiracy within the Federal Government that dates all the way back to J. Edgar Hoover. Then, when foreign DNA is found in a previous victim linked to the scandal, the team is able to narrow down the number of suspects, leading them closer to cracking the case. Meanwhile, the Jeffersonian team lays their beloved friend and colleague Lance Sweets to rest after his tragic death, but not before he helps them solve the case from the grave. Carla Gallo guest-stars...

Ask Ausiello: September 20

Question: I’m still devastated about Sweets’ death and would absolutely love some happy Bones scoop you have. —Amelia
Ausiello: Wendell isn’t going to die! As EP Stephen Nathan strongly hinted in last week’s premiere post mortem, it’s highly unlikely the show will kill off two major characters in one season. (The title of the show is Bones, not Game of Thrones.) That said, Nathan confirms that Wendell’s cancer battle will “definitely be revisited” this season. “We’ve already done the first episode dealing with that,” he notes, “and that will continue for a few more episodes.”
Question: Bones! What’s upcoming for Booth and Brennan outside of the conspiracy arc? —Kay
Ausiello: The big 200th episode — and here’s another clue about the premise of the milestone outing per Mr. Nathan: “They’re all going to be playing their characters, but in a different world and situation.” And he goes on to reiterate that this is not an “alternate reality” situation.

Buddy TV: 9 Things to Know about 'The Lance to the Heart'

Now that the biggest and best kept secret in Bones history has been revealed, it's time to discuss "The Lance to the Heart," Bones' follow-up to the season 10 premiere which I keep mistakenly referring to (in my head) as 'The Finale' because of how devastating it was. So, here are some teasers to tantalize and torture you from now until 8pm on Thursday when the episode debuts on your very own small screen.

Just in case you've expunged the memory from your addled brain: recall that in the last 140 seconds of last week's Bones premiere, "The Conspiracy in the Corpse," the world split in two when Dr. Sweets shockingly yet valiantly bled-out from injuries he sustained while fighting off a trained assassin working for the FBI conspiracy turds. Right there, staring into Booth's eyes, Sweets uttered his final words, "The world's a lot better than you think it is ..." and we all sat in stunned silence while the truth worked its way into our brains. Then we collapsed into a fit of super ugly crying for which we probably could have used a sedative ... or was that just me? Anyway, let's talk about "The Lance to the Heart."...

3 Big Reasons We'll Miss The Bones Character We Just Lost

For most of TV history, killing off a main character has been a rarity. Recently however, killing off lead characters has become more of a TV staple, as leads end up dying off for shock effect or simply because the actor or actress in question is leaving a show (Thanks Game of Thrones). This week, Bones premiered the first episode of its 10th season, opening up with Booth in jail and a plotline carrying over from Season 9. Unfortunately, instead of ending on a happy note for Booth and Brennan, Bones’ premiere episode was tinged with sadness. At the end of the episode, fans were treated to the death of Dr. Lance Sweets...

BONES star TJ Thyne gives the scoop on Season 10 – Exclusive Interview

The end of Season 9 of Fox’s BONES saw the team in crisis, with FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz, gravely wounded and arrested for murder after he killed assassins who were posing as legitimate law enforcement.
Season 10 of BONES, adapted by Hart Hanson from Kathy Reichs’ novels, premieres Thursday September 25 at 8 PM. The opener finds the team at the Jeffersonian lab rallying around forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, as she works to free Booth, who is both her professional partner and her husband...

Bones Round Table: Season Premiere Shocker

It happened: Bones Season 10 Episode 1 left us with a death that no one saw coming.

Even when David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel offered some insight into the upcoming season, nothing could have prepared us for the premiere. Based on the way Bones Season 9 ended, we knew this was going to be an important episode, but it looks like the opener will set the (depressing?) tone for the whole season.

Below, TV Fanatic writers Mary Kate Venedam, Christine Orlando, Michelle Carlbert, and Ashley Bissette Sumerel discuss their thoughts on the shocking events that just transpired...

Meet Market Monday: Lance Sweets

Today’s edition of Meet Market Monday is a little different. While our original intent for this feature was to focus on some of our favorite female characters on the small screen, we also welcome the chance for equal opportunity gushing when the inspiration strikes us. Due to recent events in the fall TV season, we thought this would be a great time to branch out and showcase one of our favorite guys, too.
Name: Lance Sweets
Occupation: FBI psychologist/profiler/lounge pianist/babysitter
Show: Bones (FOX)
He’s a prodigy who is wise beyond his years, but also acts like a little boy when he’s around his friends. He’s a hotshot psychologist in the FBI, but struggled for years to gain respect from his peers because he was just so young. He’s got multiple doctorates and has studied among the best scientists in the world, but he’s not above rocking out to his favorite metal music or hanging out at karaoke bars to sing “Put Da Lime In Da Coconut” in his downtime. He’s a former foster kid who inexplicably became the baby duck of the biggest bunch of misfits in law enforcement. Most of all, he’s got one of the biggest hearts you could ever hope to meet, and remains steadfast to his friends right until the very end.
Meet Lance Sweets!...

BONES: Stephen Nathan Offers a Few Hopeful Season 10 Teases

BONES fans may have faced a painful loss in Thursday night’s season premiere, but there is a silver-lining to it: everyone else will be safe for the foreseeable future. For other shows, that reassurance might not mean much. But with squintern Wendell battling cancer — and BONES boss Stephen Nathan teasing that “he’s going to be in pretty good shape initially” — after Sweets’ death, I asked for reassurance that the BONES family wouldn’t have to be bracing for another fatality...

Buzzfeed: “Bones” Won’t Be The Same Without Sweets

Dr. Lance Sweets died in a parking lot in the Season 10 premiere of Bones. John Francis Daley had played the beleaguered FBI psychologist since Season 3, where we met him as a 22-year-old with a doctorate in psychology.
In his first scene in the series, Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) insults Sweets’ “meaningless exercises,” Booth (David Boreanaz) insults his youth, and Brennan says, “I don’t care how young you are” — which makes him smile — before she adds, “I’ve never believed in psychotherapy.” In his final moments, the dying man comforted Booth and Brennan: “The world’s a lot better than you think it is.” Earlier in the episode, Brennan calls his discipline “pseudo-science,” but she also calls him a friend...

You may remember that in 2005, there was a new show about people who solved crime using bones. It was called, unsurprisingly, Bones, and it starred the guy from Buffy and Angel and the woman whose younger sister was in Elf. Remember that show? It hasn’t gone anywhere. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that it’s gone everywhere—Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and back again—but it hasn’t gone away. How long will Bones drag out the FBI conspiracy this season? — Barbara
Executive producer Stephen Nathan says it should mostly be wrapped up by the end of Episode 2. However, Booth will be dealing with the FBI's betrayal for much longer. "That's not something he can get rid of in one episode," Nathan says. "He has to learn how to trust the organization he devoted his life to again." That also includes Booth getting to know his new co-worker, Junior Agent James Aubrey. "He's somebody [Booth] has to learn how to work with and somebody he has to learn how to trust. The trust is the issue he will be wrestling with for a little bit."

Bones Season 10: David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel on What's Next for the Couple

We’ve been waiting patiently to find out what happens next for Booth and Brennan after the cliffhanger at the end of Bones Season 9.
With just a few days remaining before Bones Season 10 Episode 1, what can David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel tell us about the upcoming season?...

Tipster:  KATIARABREU

Emily Deschanel & David avid Boreanaz – Bones

Q) Can you first just talk about how Booth and Brennan are going to deal with everything that’s going on, both Booth being in jail and also after that fact?

Emily: Booth is in trouble.  We’re worried about him.  We think he’s not going to survive being in prison.  We have different ideas about how we’re going to get him out.  Being in prison brings up a lot of stuff for Booth, as David can follow up on.  He’s suffering from PTSD because of being there, as well as being tortured, and what not, being in the military and the Army Rangers in his past.  He’s gone through a lot in his life. We’re dealing with a lot when we come back from this season.  He’s in prison or jail.  We’re working to get him out.  He’s not safe and all these people want to kill him there.  It puts a real strain on the relationship even when he does get out of prison and it’s a big deal.  It’s not just going to be healed in one episode or something.  It has long lasting repercussions.

David: Yes.  I think it’ll last throughout the season.  I don’t think it will necessarily be as dark as some people might think it will be.  I think the first two episodes really have the sense of how dark it could be where Booth is and who he trusts with inside of the FBI, how he decides to take things into his own hands, and how Bones deals with that and gets him back. There’s a great moment in episode two that is a very strong moment between both of them and she really gets on his case to a point where he has to decide what to do.  I’m not going to really say what that is, but it is definitely, it’s a page turner for their relationship and see how that unfolds...

Emily Deschanel & David Boreanaz on Bones Season 10

The two talked to SciFi Vision about how Booth's time both in jail and post jail will affect their relationship.

Michaela Conlin, a Parkland grad, has rattled 'Bones' for a decade

Parkland High School graduate Michaela Conlin was already a veteran of two failed TV shows when she trudged down to the 20th Century Fox lot in Century City to shoot a pilot for a police procedural called "Brennan."
Even though the role of forensic artist Angela Montenegro seemed pretty juicy, Conlin knew it was a long shot that the series would get air time, let alone flourish.
"Pilot season in L.A. is just this blood bath," says Conlin. "They make so many pilots and such a small percentage are picked up. And then if you are picked up, there are so many variables. You have to get a good time slot, and you have to get promoted. And then you have to thrive in that time slot.
"It's just incredibly competitive…I had passed on two other pilots to do ['Brennan'] and I remember thinking, 'This thing better last a season or two.'"
As it turns out, "Brennan" — after a name change to "Bones" — was not only picked up for a season or two but it has become one of the longest running shows on prime time TV.
"Bones" returns for its 10th season on Sept. 25. It's a milestone few series reach, especially today.
"It's really kind of crazy," says Conlin. "It blows my mind."...

Bones Season 10: Boreanaz & Deschanel Tease What’s to Come

Bones fans were swept into a whirlwind last season with the introduction of a conspiracy storyline that almost ended in the death of a major character. Now with season 10 about to hit our screens, the fallout continues with Booth (David Boreanaz) recovering behind bars for crimes he did not commit, while Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the Jeffersonian team attempts to prove his innocence – or at the very least find a way to free him from prison before he meets an untimely death at the hands of those who would prefer to see him silenced forever.
The show returns on Sept. 25 with “The Conspiracy in the Corpse,” an episode which is set to pick up on those threads from last season’s finale and use them to weave fresh trouble over episodes to come. ScreenSpy sat down with Bones stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz this week to talk about what challenges lie ahead for our favorite detective duo, how the fallout from the finale has effected their characters and where and how this road will take them in the future. Also under discussion, the show’s 200th episode, which will involve a ‘classical’ look for Deschanel, a special Daddy bonding moment for Booth and much more.

Q&A Interview with David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel About BONES Season 10

Earlier today, TV Tango participated in a conference call with BONES stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, who dished a few details about Season 10, including a touching moment in the premiere episode; discussed the show's 200th episode, which David is directing; described how Booth's time in prison will affect his relationship with Brennan; and expressed their joy about Daisy's pregnancy.

On Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on FOX, BONES returns for its tenth season. At the conclusion of Season 9, the team took down the Ghost Killer serial killer, only to find that she was just a small cog in a much larger conspiracy involving high-ranking government officials and people within the FBI. Committed to uncovering the truth, Brennan and Booth ignored the potential danger of confronting a governmental monolith and soon found their professional and personal lives in turmoil, after Booth was arrested for the murder of three FBI agents. In the Season 10 premiere, "The Conspiracy in the Corpse," Brennan and the Jeffersonian team are desperately working to get Booth out of jail, clear his name and absolve him of crimes he did not commit. The remains of a man who has been dead 16 years could be the point of origin in the entire government conspiracy that ultimately put Booth in jail. Meanwhile, Booth is faced with a challenge from James Aubrey, a new and politically ambitious FBI agent. As he awaits trial, Booth also realizes that many of the convicts with whom he is locked up are criminals he put in there, and Daisy and Sweets have a surprise for the rest of the Jeffersonian team...

(David made a list!) The Wrap: The Most and Least Liked Fall TV Actors

Tipsters: geraghtyvl

(Scan) Bones in September 22-28 TV Guide

Tipster/Scanner: MrsMoosejaw

IT WAS TOO good to be true: A promotion for FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) that would take him, with wife/partner Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), and daughter Christine to the FBI's Berlin office. But that plan was thwarted in the season ender, when Booth was taken into FBI custody, the victim of an apparently years-in-the-making frame-up. Season 10- picks up three months after Booth's arrest, with Brennan and the team desperately trying to clear his name. Boreanaz and Deschanel give us the scoop on what's next for the arresting drama - Oriana Schwindt
Booth's loyalty has always been one of his defining traits and he's dedicated his life to the FBI. What does this turn of events do to him, emotionally?
Boreanaz: He's really questioning his own beliefs now. In the first couple episodes of the season, you'll see him revolt and be trapped in his own anger. And it will take Brennan to knock him out of it.
Deschanel: To beat you up.
Boreanaz: Literally beat me up. It was a rough couple of episodes.
How is Brennan coping?
Deschanel: It's hard. She's been raising their child on her own for several months. Booth has lost his faith and that affects Brennan, too. Plus, they don't necessarily agree on how to get him out of prison.
We don't know much about the architects of this conspiracy, but where in the pantheon of Bones villains would you rank them?

Deschanel: Well, this certainly involves more people than any other case we've seen. it's many people over many, many years. Serial killers might seem like pure evil, but this conspiracy and the people behind it have done more damage, ruined more lives. It's very complex.
Boreanaz: There's a history to this conspiracy that makes it more powerful and more destructive. I'd put these guys at the top.
You have been doing the show for nearly 10 years now. What are some of your favorite moments?
Boreanaz: The [Season 4] London episode with the London Bridge going up an me flubbing my line. The bridge only goes up, like, once a day. [Laughs] It was classic.
Deschanel: I'm thinking of the scene [in Season 8] where Brennan proposes to Booth. David directed that episode, and before the scene he took me aside and we had this private moment, like, "This is how far we've come."

[Quote on the photo: "I'm so proud of what we've done these 10 seasons," says Boreanaz (with Deschanel).]

[Video Exclusive] 'Bones' Season 9 Deleted Scene: Sweets Counsels Booth on Taking Christine to Mass

Enough looking forward to what promises to be one of the best Bones seasons ever, right? Well, it feels stupid to even make that ridiculous statement - 'best season ever' - because how, in the name of all invertebrates, will the Bones fairies ever top Season 9? Bueller, Bueller, anyone? Yeah, that's what I thought.

It's that time of year when Boneheads are rifling through their DVD collections trying to decide which season to re-watch for the millionth time while waiting for a torturous summer hiatus to end and the next season to debut. But, whoops! Something is missing from our Bones DVD collection and it was one of the best seasons of all. See, there I go again hyperbolizing and making it sound like season 9 was a really big deal. In my defense, the wedding season really was a pretty effing kick ass season. Like a fine wine, our Bones is. But before we delve into the 191st episode and the tenth season, we really do need to look back at Bones season 9 and savor it...

DVD Review: BONES Season 9

Everyone’s favorite TV forensic anthropologist is back for another exciting season of 24 episodes. As the eighth season of Bones came to a close, fans were left with the question as to whether or not Booth and Bones would ever get married—Pelant had threatened to kill five people if Booth revealed why he called off the wedding.
The ninth season brings more of what the fans love about this series—that signature blend of humor, drama, action, interesting cases, and of course those unique and disgusting opening sequences when the body is first discovered. But most important of all, is that this season finally brings the big moment we have all been waiting for over the past nine years—the Booth and Bones wedding!
The wedding episode is one of the highlights of the season. The ceremony itself is perfect, and longtime viewers of the series will really appreciate the couple’s vows. The episode brings together the entire extended cast to both solve a case as well as celebrate the union of these two characters. It was great to see all of the squinterns working together, the return of Booth’s mother (Joanna Cassidy), and Avalon (Cyndi Lauper) singing at the wedding ceremony!...

Ask Ausiello: September 10

Question: It’s been too long since you’ve had anything on Bones. With the show about to return, what can you tease about it? —Cassidy
Ausiello: Booth and Brennan are going incognito again, and the setting for their covert mission sounds LOL hilarious. “They are going to be undercover at a crossword puzzle tournament,” reveals exec producer Stephen Nathan, who hints that they will be taking on new aliases this time around. “That remains to be seen, but I’m smelling new [personas].”

Question: You’ve been neglecting Bones ever since San Diego Comic-Con — which was like a zillion years ago. I need you to go back and pester Stephen Nathan to get an answer to how long Brennan and Booth’s relationship will be affected by Booth’s PTSD. —Cindy
Ausiello: Geez, you guys are really on my case about this little Bones scoop respite. Even lovers need a holiday, right? To answer your question, Nathan says the PTSD arc will “not be overwhelming,” but “it’s something he has to deal with. It’s not as if he is in a rubber room, you know? It’s a trauma that has shaken his trust in the people and the institutions that he took for granted. So it’s just a matter of regaining that trust, and that’s what he’s dealing with.” And here’s a BONUS SCOOP to keep you placated: The show’s 200th episode will explore “what Booth and Brennan might have been like in another world,” teases Nathan of the milestone outing, which he insists will not be a dream, nor be set in an alternate reality. “It’s going to be like going for a ride at an amusement park.”

Exclusive Interview: David Boreanaz on “Bojack Horseman” and “Bones”

I ran into David Boreanaz at Fox’s annual Eco-Casino party to raise money for environmental charities. Of course, Boreanaz attended a Fox party as a representative of the hit show Bones, now going into its 10th season, but I wanted to talk to him about Bojack Horseman.
See, I just binge watched Netflix’s animated series starring Will Arnett as a celebrity horse. They did an episode where, while Bojack was away, his roommate Todd told tourists it was David Boreanaz’s house. @BojackHorseman has even tweeted at Boreanaz to stop sending people over to his house, so I figured he was in on it. Turns out I was the first to let him know. You’re welcome, Bojack Horseman.
Nuke the Fridge: I want to talk about Bojack Horseman. Did they tell you ahead of time they were going to do that bit about David Boreanaz’s house?
David Boreanaz: No, what happened?
Nuke: Are you aware of Bojack Horseman?...

'Bones': Emily Deschanel & David Boreanaz Reflect On Reaching Season 10

Fox drama "Bones" enters the decade club when the show returns with its season premiere on September 25.
On Monday night, series stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz reflected on their show hitting its tenth season.
"It is a big deal," Emily told Access Hollywood at Fox's Fall Eco-Casino Party in Santa Monica. "It's a short list of shows that have made it to 10 seasons, so I feel very honored to be among that company. So, it's pretty exciting. I can't believe it. I feel, in one sense, I blinked and then I'm here. I did a pilot and all of a sudden, I've done almost 200 episodes, but at the same time, so many things have happened in that time and we've been able to follow these characters and these relationships over time and see how they change and that's been wonderful. "...
