Matt's Inside Line: January 31

Did you get any more interesting Booth and Brennan teases/spoilers at the Fox TCA party? –Elena
You could say this one Bones tease will have B&B in a… lather. “In one of the upcoming episodes, a body is found in soap! A big thing of soap,” Emily Deschanel shared. “The body decomposes and the fat, combined with other things, becomes soap.” Oh, and here’s the latest scoop on a new guy who will ‘rouse Brennan’s interests… in a way. New squintern Oliver Wells (played by Brian Klugman) arrives on the scene just a few credits shy of obtaining his fifth degree, and as such, “He actually makes Brennan nervous — he’s that smart,” Tamara Taylor told me. “And I think he’ll be around for a while, because he’s very fun.”

BONES: Hart Hanson Talks Booth/Brennan, Hodgins/Angela, Cam/Arastoo, Brennan’s Mother, and More

There’s a lot of potential relationship drama on BONES right now.
Hodgins and Angela just lost all their money. Cam’s hiding a secret romance. Sweets and Daisy split (and will soon be reunited, professionally). The only couple who seems to be doing well is Booth and Brennan.
But will that last?
I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson about some of the couple drama coming up, the (re)introduction of Brennan’s mother, Sweets’ living arrangements, and more…

Mega Buzz: January 29

Got any scoop on Booth from Bones? — Whitney
ADAM:
When I asked David Boreanaz about the nagging mystery of Booth's big secret — you know, the one between him and God — I was a bit surprised by the answer. "Booth communicates to God in a very painful way," Boreanaz says. "He was a soldier. One of the things we don't really realize is he wakes up every morning in pain, and we haven't really examined that." So will he let his teammates — and more importantly, Brennan — in on the secret? "He has a pretty good cloak with the belt buckle and the socks — he hides behind a lot of that," Boreanaz says. "[Booth's shrink] Stephen Fry exposed a bit of that, and maybe now he needs to expose that to Brennan and see where that takes them."

Question: Did we ever find out what Pelant did to Booth and Brennan’s alarm clock on Bones? Or did I just blink and miss it? —Laura
Ausiello: You definitely did not blink and miss it, since the episode that solves that little mystery hasn’t aired yet. Nor has it been shot. Or written. And that’s because the episode I’m referring to is the Season 8 finale! And while we’re on the subject of major developments coming up in the finale, exec producer Stephen Nathan promises that viewers will get “one more surprising piece of the Brennan/Booth marriage dilemma.” What are you waiting for Internet? What do BONES, NCIS and CHUCK Have In Common? Vik Sahay Talks Working on All Three Amazing Shows

When a beloved television show ends, one of the burning questions that remains is: When will you see your favorite stars again?  In the case of Vik Sahay, that is tonight.  In tonight’s episode of BONES, “The Twist in the Plot, Vik guest-stars as a business partner of the murder victim.  In a recent exclusive interview Vik shared what it was like working on BONES and an upcoming episode of NCIS, as well as his new comedy series SATISFACTION.  He also gave a fun shout-out to CHUCK and his glory days as one-half of the musical group known as Jeffster!

What’s the story about how you came to work on tonight’s episode of BONES?
VIK:  I shot BONES in the Fall after sort of taking the Summer off.  It was just such a refreshing way to step back on set.  I play a green entrepreneur in the funeral business in a very New Age kind of way and I obviously run into some kind of trouble, which is as specific as I’ll get for now. (Laughs) I love the tone of the show — the quips and their banters. It is very tongue-in-cheek, and it was a blast working with them.  It was the right feel getting back onto set after taking some months off.

Question: Can you finally rule out Booth and Brennan on Bones as the couple behind your Blind Item — despite what David Boreanaz just told you guys? —Michelle
Ausiello: Not commenting on the Blind Item. But when we presented Emily Deschanel with her costar’s curious quotes, it took her a moment, but then she got on track with what he had said.Ohhhhh. Yeah, we definitely have an episode where we’re at odds with each other,” she confirmed. As colleagues or as a couple? “Personally,” she clarified, “but then it trickles into the professional. It’s complicated!” Deschanel also elaborated on the springtime time travel episode teased in Inside Line. “[The victim] attempted to travel through time, and we’re wondering if that’s how he died,” she said. “And then we find another body and wonder if that’s actually him from the future, coming back. It opens a whole big discussion!”

‘Bones’ Post-Mortem “The Corpse on the Canopy” Exclusive Answers from Hart Hanson

I don’t know about you, but I’m still reeling from Monday’s extraordinary Bones episode. I had so many questions, I decided to drop a line to the show’s fearless leader, Hart Hanson. He was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to answer. So, here you have it – straight from the horses mouth.

VoTV: Now that Hodgins (TJ Thyne) is broke, what does that mean for the Cantilever Group, and more specifically the Jeffersonian as the Cantilever Group is the museum’s largest benefactor?
HART: The biggest adjustment is to Hodgins personally – we will see what happens when someone who has always been rich must suddenly live on his wages.  99% of people in the world will identify with that.  It also means that the Jeffersonian must look for other revenue streams …

‘BONES’: SWEETS ON THE MOVE
Before I get to our main event, did y’all like last night’s episode as much as I did? If so, make sure you read my post-mortem with executive producer Stephen Nathan here. We talk about Pelant’s next return and preview some emotional upcoming episodes.
Now, on to business: I get asked about Sweets and Daisy almost as much as Booth and Brennan. (Almost.) So you’ll be happy to learn that we’ll see Daisy once again very soon. How? Nathan explains: “We are revisiting Sweets and Daisy. We have once where they kind of saw each other again and realized it was over. But we do have an episode coming up where Sweets’ living arrangement will change yet again. and Daisy is in that episode. But I don’t really want to say what happens.”
Subtext: Yes, Sweets’ stay with Booth and Brennan is coming to an end in a few episodes. (Awww! I liked the roomies!) But it could mean good news for Sweets and Daisy.
Fair trade? Thoughts?

One of the last times Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne, left) was face-to-face with serial killer Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds), the scientist almost strangled him to death. And in tonight’s episode of Bones, Pelant is out to prove that he didn’t appreciate being treated that way...

Exclusive Interview: Emily Deschanel on BONES Season 8 and beyond

On the morning of Tuesday, January 8, Fox publicly announced it had picked up BONES for a ninth season. The series, currently in the midst of its eighth season at 8 PM on Mondays, concerns both the murder investigations by and personal relationships of Temperance “Bones” Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz. After six seasons of will they/won’t they, Brennan and Booth finally got together romantically. In Season 7, their daughter Christine was born – Brennan’s onscreen pregnancy coincided with Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy with her husband – and Season 8 finds the pair living together while still solving crimes as partners.

The night after the Season 9 announcement, Fox threw a party for the Television Critics Association. A lot of BONES personnel were present, including Emily Deschanel, who was clearly happy with being able to spend more time as Brennan. Here’s what she had to to say to AX...

Can you give us any more details on Brennan's near-death experience on Bones? — Destiny
ADAM:
"I am shot and I die," Emily Deschanel deadpans.  Fortunately, she continues, while Brennan is trapped between planes, she reunites (and has a heart-to-heart) with her long-dead mother, which could change Brennan's view of the world completely. "She has some big words of advice for me," Deschanel says. "You discover where Brennan's hyper-rational perspective came from, and ... her mother shatters it a bit. No one changes over night, but that does change Brennan and really seeps into her life."

Ask Matt: January 14

Question: I've loved Bones since day one, and am thrilled they'll get another season, but the goo and slime (with sound effects!) are simply getting too gross. I've actually begun DVR'ing the show just so I can fast-forward through the ickiness. I expect they were trying to appeal to the teenage boy aesthetics, but c'mon, is that really the demographic that is watching? I think not. To whom can I appeal that this characteristic of the show is simply unneeded? The stories don't need the gore. And I suspect the more of us who DVR to avoid the gruesomeness are also avoiding the commercials, not what I expect the show's sponsors want to hear. — Connie

Matt Roush: Maybe I'm just an immature fanboy at heart, but those icky bits are part of the appeal of Bones to me, and these kinds of sound effects amplifying our squeamishness have been with us since the days of radio (sample Arch Oboler's classic Lights Out if you doubt it). One of the charms of the Bones character is that she's absolutely unfazed by any of these gross-outs. In one of this week's Monday episodes, she nonchalantly asks Hodgins at a crime scene, "Can you please get the bugs off my eyes?" Made me giggle. This is not an uncommon complaint about this show, however, and the producers are very aware of it. Probably makes them take even more delight in making us squirm through those moments. As for the DVR issue: I'm pretty sure the gore isn't the main reason most people are DVR'ing this or any other show. It's convenience, and the way many of us are consuming TV now regardless of content.

David Boreanaz and Stephen Nathan Tease Bones Relationship Drama in Season 9 — Exclusive

It’s official: Bones will be back for Season 9! FOX made the announcement on January 8, and Wetpaint Entertainment was right there at the 2013 FOX All Star Party, ready to talk to the cast right after the big announcement.

Here’s what executive producer Stephen Nathan and actor David Boreanaz (Booth) think about the pickup (spoiler alert: They’re thrilled). David also weighs in about about the dynamic of his character’s relationship with Brennan (Emily Deschanel) — and how it might change next season...

Matt's Inside Line: January 10th

Bones | Before you start seeking Season 9 scoop, know there’s plenty of fun stuff still on tap for this winter/spring. For one, Emily Deschanel told me, there’s an episode in which Brennan uncovers the remains of a caveman – but don’t you dare call it a “caveman” in her presence. There’s also a case that deals with time travel (?). But the episode Deschanel described as emotionally “sweet” is the one where Bones meets her maker — and/or meets her maker — in “The Shot in the Dark,” airing mid-February. “Brennan gets shot, and she either hallucinates and sees her [late] mother, or she goes to Heaven and has an encounter with her mother (played by Brooke Langston), but she doesn’t believe it.” What do the women talk about after so much time “apart”? “There are emotions as we discuss things [including] what my life is like now, the baby,” Deschanel shared. “It’s really sweet.”

BONES: Hart Hanson Offers a Cryptic Hodgins Tease

With a whole bunch of BONES coming your way in the next couple of weeks — the show returns with back-to-back episodes on Monday, January 14th — when I spoke with BONES creator Hart Hanson at the Fox winter press tour party, I wanted to know what he could tease about what’s to come for our Jeffersonian — and FBI — crimefighters. And, well, what he offered up is certainly something different...
