BONES: Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan Talk About the Fallout From ‘The Future in the Past’

[Spoiler Alert: If you haven't seen tonight's episode of BONES, please stop reading and go watch it. Trust me. You won't want to read this post until after you've viewed "The Future in the Past" because it will spoil a few very important aspects of the hour.]

All clear?

Um, what the WHAT?!

While it wasn’t totally surprising that Pelant is not gone for good (since the producers have been teasing all summer that he’ll be sticking around this season, and all), but that final shot that showed Flynn may not be all that he seems? I have QUESTIONS.

The good news? I was able to track down BONES executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan to tease when Flynn (and Pelant) will be back, Hodgins being pushed to the extreme, and why our team still isn’t out of the woods yet…

Interview: "Bones" Executive Producers Hart Hanson & Stephen Nathan

The season finale earlier this year of FOX's long-running series "Bones" ended on a nice fat cliffhanger when Brennan (Emily Deschanel), in an effort to keep her child safe from demented killer Pelant (Andrew Leeds), skipped town without telling Booth (David Boreanaz). Now, as the eighth season premiere airs tonight, three months have passed and Pelant is still on the loose.
To uncover where "Bones" is heading starting tonight, our Jim Halterman grilled the experts, Executive Producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan, who also happened to write tonight's "The Future In The Past" episode.

'Bones': 10 things to expect from season 8

Bones returns tonight (Fox, 8 p.m. ET) for the start of its eighth season. The premiere is about getting Brennan (Emily Deschanel), who has been on the run for three months with daughter Christine after she was framed for murder by serial killer/hacker Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds), back with Booth (David Boreanaz). What else do we have to look forward to this season (besides seeing Brennan as a brunette again by episode 2, thank God)? Here are 10 teases from creator Hart Hanson. ...

Bones “The Future in the Past” Advance Review: 5 Spoiler-Free Reasons to Watch

Tonight’s Bones season 8 premiere, called “The Future in the Past,” reminded me just how much I love this show. Last season at the end of my review I remember asking “is it fall yet?” because that ending was so tense, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. But then life happened and summer happened and soon I had forgotten what it was like to watch my favorite shows on TV every week.

But within just a few minutes of watching this premiere, I couldn’t imagine going without having Bones on my TV screen every week. Though it’s not technically fall in my town yet (we had temps in the 100′s over the weekend, ugh), I am happy to say that the calendar says it is and brought Bones back to us.

There are so many things I would love to say about this episode as it definitely up there with some of my favorites now. But since I can’t spoil anything, I’ll just give you a few reasons why I think you should watch...

The Daily Review Scoop

COMINGS AND GOINGS: Returning for its eighth season, Fox's Bones (8/7c) spends its first hour extricating its heroes from the mess of last season's cliffhanger, which took on the eye-rolling task of setting up Bones (Emily Deschanel) to be framed for murder by the diabolical tech wizard Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds, the show's new Big Bad). Now a fugitive (in a hideous blonde wig) with Baby Christine by her side, having left Booth (David Boreanaz) twisting in the wind for three months, Bones makes her move to draw Pelant out by surreptitiously unearthing another of his past victims. The best part of the episode is watching the Squints she left behind rally to her cause. They miss her and would do anything — even in one memorable scene threatening murder — to clear her name.

Mega Buzz: September 11

Will Booth and Brennan be fighting in the Bones premiere? — Mary
ADAM:
Although Booth takes a few verbal jabs in the premiere, you won't really begin to see his true emotions come out right away. "I think the initial reaction is relief and gratitude that [Brennan and Baby Christine] are fine," executive producer Stephen Nathan tells us. "The second episode is where [Booth] realizes he resents this person, that he's angry at her." But Nathan hints that Brennan's got some issues of her own. "Brennan has lived her entire life quite independently," Nathan says. "She's realizing for the first time that she's terribly interconnected with Booth... and this kind of shakes the foundation of who she feels she's been all these years. [She may] resent the fact that she gave herself over to another person."

8 Things to Know About the 'Bones' Season 8 Premiere

The Basics of the Bones Season 8 Premiere

We got a chance to preview "The Future in the Past," and here is what you need to know about this episode:

Three months have passed since Brennan ran away with Christine in order to avoid being framed for murder by Christopher Pelant. Only her father knows where she is. Booth, unfortunately, does not.

If any of this seems surprising or unfamiliar, you should definitely go back and re-watch the Bones season 7 finale. There are definitely a lot of plot points that will be continuing into season 8.

But enough with the generalities. You came here to read more specific spoilers about what is coming in "The Future in the Past." So here you go!

Inside TV's Spoiler Room: September 8

I keep hearing that the Bones Season 8 premiere is AMAZING!….So, just how adorable is Booth & Christine’s reunion? Commence the cute deets please, thx! – Sue B
First, the premiere is pretty amazing. I’ll admit that before I watched, I was a little worried that Booth’s resentment toward Runaway Mommy would sully any sweet moments, but that is not the case at all. In fact, I’m happy to report that the Booth/Bones/Baby reunion is very cute — almost as heart-warming as Christine’s baby jabber. One word in particular that she seems to have mastered will make you — and Booth — melt!
Hey, Sandra! You haven’t shared anything on Bones in a long time. Anything on Booth and Brennan, or exciting that we haven’t heard of yet? – Mariam
Remember the washing machine sex that David Boreanaz talked about at Comic-Con? Hold that thought…

Sex, Religion, and Life After Death: A Very Candid Chat With Bones Executive Producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan on What to Expect in Season 8

After the dramatic seventh season of FOX’s Bones, which saw Brennan give birth, get framed for murder, and finally go on the lam in the cliff-hanger finale, what can the show’s producers possibly have in store for the new season? This week, Screen Spy caught up with Bones creator and executive producer Hart Hanson and executive producer Stephen Nathan when they sat down for a conference call with the entertaiment press to talk about what will keep us on the edge of our seats in Season 8. ...

‘Bones’ 8.01 Advance Review “The Future in the Past”

Holy freaking crap, you guys. Now you all know that I am like one of the biggest Bones fans around and that every time there is a new premiere or finale I claim it’s the best episode ever – but it’s legit this time. “The Future in the Past” is the best episode Hart Hanson and his fantastic team has ever put together, in my humble opinion. That being said, I also have to throw this out there: Hart Hanson you evil rat bastard. If you all haven’t caught on by now, I have had the extreme privilege to catch a sneak peek at the season 8 premiere of Bones (best early birthday present ever!). As ever, I can’t give away any major plot points, but I can throw you a little bone (haha, get it?!).
When we last left Booth (David Boreanaz), Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the crew at the Jeffersonian in May Brennan was on the lamb, accused of murder, with only her father Max (guest star Ryan O’Neal) and baby Christine for company. Flash forward three months, Brennan is still hiding out because the FBI, led by supreme douchebag of the year Special Agent Hayes Flynn (Reed Diamond) still think she murdered an old colleague. Thankfully everyone at the Jeffersonian hasn’t smoked a lot of crack and is still hard at work proving that evil techie genius Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) is framing Bren.
Here’s the rundown for the premiere

Calling all Bones fans! The season 8 premiere is just over a week away. I got a chance to speak with creator Hart Hanson and Executive Producer Stephen Nathan this week about the show; and while they are usually spoiler-phobes ‘Squart’ loosened their lips a bit to give fans quite a bit of information on what to expect this coming season.  Check it out!
Please be aware, this is dish about season 8 and the future of Bones. There are spoilers ahead, if you don’t want to be spoiled for the premiere, don’t read this. Don’t say I didn’t warn you

“Bones” True/False Preview: Episode 801 “The Future In The Past”

Back by popular demand, it’s the Bones True/False Episode Preview. I’ve seen the first episode of the new season (which premieres next Monday at 8/7c on Fox) and I personally don’t think Bones fans will be disappointed. The adventure continues, the action continues, the gross-outs continue and, yes, the love continues.
Two promises I make — I will do these throughout the season as I get to see episodes ahead of time AND, though it kills me, I will not put Hannah in any future True/False previews. The fans have spoken and I listened!
So here are 9 TRUE/FALSE statements. You guess which is true and false and I’ll reveal the answers after the episode “The Future In The Past” airs next Monday.  Enjoy!! ...

Ask the Addict: September 6

Care to add anything to the deluge of scoop that has recently come out about BONES upcoming eighth season premiere? — Lisa
The TV Addict: Do we ever. That said, since we aren’t prepared to spoil the circumstances surrounding Booth and Brennan’s very satisfying and surprisingly physical reunion, we’ll simply say this: Not only do creator Hart Hanson and Co. outdo themselves with an immensely satisfying season opener that leaves a surprisingly large threat over the Jeffersonian looming, Hodgins gets to show a side of himself that will have fans buzzing even more than whether or not Brennan decides to keep her blond locks!

This season the opening credits of are different

talks about Crystal Method doing a remix of the theme for them. adds they didn't want 2 lose what original was

Pelant will be around all season on - most interesting murder had on the show

. Pelant will "color it red" with the season

. thinks that we will see & next season they are in negotiations. They are confident.

. is a mischievous guy ; it's all part of the game to him

. thinks wants to come back as much as they want him to

the end of next episode was the natural end 2 extend the Pelant story

will still have a revolving gang of interns & always check on their availabilites

. says we will see old interns that we haven't seen in awhile & also some new interns this season of

. they hope to have Angela's dad back this season. Also have story 4 Hodgin's brother they might use. Also Booth's mom maybe

. says Zoey Deschanel is very busy so they don't know that they will have her back.

. Cam's love interest this season is someone that fans will recognize - hopefully won't see it coming.

. talks abt Brennan/Booth reunion actors wanted 2 go further so they upped energy (me: is hot)

And now I'm wondering if they are talking about a different scene then I am thinking of lol

. will see some evidence in 2nd ep of how Brennan leaving affected Booth

. just because something is the right & rational decision, it doesn't make it easy - will be addressed ep 2 of

Booth, Angela & Sweets are not scientists so they stand apart a bit from "smartest thing to do" etc.

. everyone reacts differently Angela & Booth are closer to Brennan so they get angry at times

. focusing more on doing "great murders" this season, but all personal lives have been altered by what happened

. now they have to deal w that stuff & Pelant but it won't be in every episode

. "If the characters stay fresh the show stays fresh because they lead the way."

. adds that they listen to the actors - meet which each one on one - who do you like scenes with, etc.

says they have been married many years to their wifes, and is another marriage (& successful)

. & . tease there could be a wedding coming up...

. "We're having sex with , what's crazy about that?" rofl (it's their other wife)

they did not tell Reed Diamond about the plans for his character

. in crime scene clean up we'll find out who Cam is w. Also someone is wiping up evidence.

. part of what appealed to him about is he would get do do series rational thought vs. emotion, etc.

lists as an example that does that.

. & . talk abt the religious issues on show & how B/B are so different but they come together, raise a child etc

. Brennan has an ability to concentrate on what's in front of her, here "retreat." so she is not someone 2 worry - that's Booth

. when Brennan is looking at bodies, etc. Booth is always looking around for other things. So Pelant will affect Booth more

. by the end of the season opener Brennan will go back to work @ the Jeffersonian

. adds that nothing is safe though because Pelant is still out there

says he has no memory of cowriting with . before (joking)

. says he's not a good cowriter; they toss things back & forth

. talks about discussing things @ great length during the cowriting

. Brennan got the advice from her dad to look for his first killing (that way eventually they could bring B/B back together)

. says . would surrender if he couldn't get to an ATM (was in hiding) . says he could eat a squirrell

. says also he'd call the writers lol

. ep 150 is a "weird" ep told from the victim's pov. Was tricky 2 shoot.

. needed a heartfelt story because it's from victim's pov - it's of a boy, so it's not funny

. it shows a side we normally don't get to see. Also Cindy Lauper is back for ep 150.

. Adds that Cindy Lauper isn't there to solve the murder, the victim needs something else.

. everyone's come together for this one - beautiful script, etc. - very rich ep & should be unique for 150.

Mega Buzz: Sept. 4

Got any fresh dirt on Bones? — Nick
ADAM:
Sounds like serial killer Christopher Pelant isn't the only cocky murderer Brennan will be up against this season. In an upcoming episode, she'll go head-to-head with a smug, blue-collar head of a crime-scene-cleaning company. When he is suspected of murdering his company's biggest rival, the gruff know-it-all tells Brennan she'll never find enough evidence to convict him because his job forces him to be so good at cleaning up dirty work. We're betting he's all kinds of wrong.
