After The Gamer in the Grease airs this Thursday, Fox is going to put the actual game up online at Fox.com/bones!

The game they designed, Punky Pong, is so easy that a monkey can play it. Heck, even I managed a high score by blocking a steady flow of bananas, mangos, pineapples and raspberries from sneaking past me. And I somehow was able to keep focused on the game despite Hanson's constant screaming in my ear, "Don't let the banana hit you!!!"

You'll be able to see (and play!) for yourself when the game is posted on fox.com after the episode airs. And oh -- watch out for those bananas. They cause shrinkage.

It's Game On For Bones

Bones executive producers Hart Hanson, Stephen Nathan and story editor Dean Lopata invited me over to their offices on the Fox lot to play an old school video game they had designed for their Dec. 3 episode, "The Gamer in the Grease." Inspired by the documentary, The King of Kong, the episode finds Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) delving deep into the cutthroat world of competitive arcade gaming. I say "cutthroat" because the opening scene's discovery of a gaming champion's corpse is quite possibly the show's most gruesome image to date. Without spoling it for you, lets just say Brennan's disappointment that the body still contains its skin is short-lived.

The producers tell me that Fox asked them to conceive an episode that would help promote Twentieth Century Fox's holiday release, Avatar, a film set in a virtual reality world that co-stars Bones recurring player, Joel Moore (Colin Fisher) as an on-ship technician overseeing avatar transference. "The studio wanted us to do some kind of cross-over," explains Nathan. "So we designed a whole story that kicks off with Sweets (John Francis Daley) meeting a girl in a movie line."

The movie the characters are going to see, not surprisingly, is Avatar. The episode finds characters playing 80's style arcade games. Getting the rights to established games like Pac Man and Donkey Kong, Hanson explains, "would have cost a fortune, so we had to design our own retro game that looks like it came out in the 80s."

It’s so good that I’m not even going to try to answer it myself. “The Christmas episode is special — it’s Christmas after all,” responds exec producer Stephen Nathan. “But a kiss? Guest Star Poll Results

I think it's clear who won this poll. 65% of you are looking forward most to seeing Emily's sister Zooey Deschanel guest starring on the December 10th episode The Goop on the Girl. After that was seeing Booth's "Pops" on the show. I hope you all enjoyed seeing him! Other special mentions: Brendan Fehr (Jared Booth), Ryan O'Neal (his first TV appearance since Farrah's death), and Dean Haglund who will be in The X in the File in January (you might remember him from The X-Files. No better for Fox. Bones fell 6% from last week to a 2.7 rating, and Fringe was down 9% to a 2.0 rating, which would be a season low if it stands up in the final ratings. Update: Not a season low. I plead bad list reading/memory.

Ratings Nov. 12

The post World Series scheduling confusion for Fox seemed to clear up last night as their line up substantially recovered. Bones increased 12% from last week to a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Fringe was up 29% to a 2.2 rating. Still worrying for renewal, but back to its season average.

FlashForward lost to Bones for the first time, and stayed at its series low 2.6 adults 18-49 rating, flat vs. last week. That’s borderline for renewal or cancelation.

Perhaps Fox was in a bit of a World Series hangover, after a 2 week baseball hiatus it slumped on the night with Bones down a tenth of a rating point to a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, and Fringe plummeting 0.5 points to a 1.7 rating.

Bones Airs Tomorrow on Global?

According to THIS FanForum post (and I quote):

There seems to be some confusion, so hopefully this will help. Global is a Canadian television network. It has absolutely no connection with Fox or baseball. It is an independent network, and it makes it own scheduling---that's why Bones is on Wednesdays, in Canada. Different day, different network.

So once again, to clarify: "Tough Man in the Tender Chicken" WILL be airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Global---no matter what happens with baseball on Fox.

Hopefully this has cleared things up for our American friends!

When Will Bones Return? A Clear Answer.

OK, Bones fans. With the help of some awesome Tweeters, I have your answer for you!

Tonight, there is a Yankees vs. Phillies baseball game. Right now the Yankees are ahead, so if the Yankees win tonight then we get Bones on Thursday the 5th. If the Phillies win tonight, then there is a sixth game Wednesday. If the Yankees win that game, then we'll get Bones. If the Phillies win that game, then no Bones Thursday.

To summarize: Root for the Yankees.

Yesterday: Editing for a few days then flying away to the real snow. That'll be it for my time on Bones. What a treat it has been.
