Ausiello Spoilers
Ausiello: “Brennan will pick a grad student when we’re tired of our rotating interns,” responds Bones boss Hart Hanson. “These people all bring in different facets that we can use. Right now, this works for us. And I don’t know that anybody in the world really wants us to replace Zack. And I feel sorry for anybody in [that position] because they’re going to get yelled at. Poor Tamara. It took a LONG time for fans to accept her on our show after Cam slept with Booth. And John Francis Daily was erroneously seen as Zack’s replacement, because he came in and Zack went. That was, of course, never the intention. He was vilified for that. It takes a very long time for people to get into our family. I think we’d be putting a curse on anyone who was going to replace Zack.” I’d have to agree with him on that.
Question: What’s the latest on the Bones/Lie to Me crossover thingy. Happening? —Curtis
Ausiello: It’s still on the table but there’s nothing official to report. Hart Hanson is certainly up for it. “We have our own human lie detector in Sweets, so I think that would be a lot of fun,” he says. “It would be fun to have Gordon [Stephen Fry] there, too, and watch Stephen and Tim Roth face off.” But the best part? As Hanson points out, Roth’s Lightman “could look at Booth and Brennan and know who’s lying and who isn’t.”
Question: Can you please rule David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel out of your Love and War blind item? Fans who have suffered through four years of UST* don’t deserve any additional stress. We’re already on the edge. —Amy
Ausiello: Yes, I can rule them out. All indications are that those two AEO**.
* unresolved sexual tension

'Bones’ star says fans are interested in the romantic before the forensic
If most fans had their way, Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth, the lead characters on Fox’s quirky crime drama Bones, would be romantically involved right now. No more teasing, no more tricks, no more stalling.
At least that’s the way Emily Deschanel, the show’s leading lady, reads her admittedly random samplings of viewer feedback.
"People always want to know when they’re going to get together," Deschanel says. "If somebody stops me in the street or something, it’s always a question."
Deschanel, who plays Brennan, a.k.a. "Bones," a brilliant forensic anthropologist/crime novelist/FBI consultant, urges patience. But frankly, she’s also eager for the big hookup with her FBI partner (played by David Boreanaz).
"It’s something that everyone has been waiting for, for a long time," she says. "The concern is that it will dissipate the romantic tension between the characters. A lot of shows have died from that."
Season 3 tantalized viewers with a Brennan-Booth kiss. Season 4 had Brennan feeling twinges of baby fever and asking Booth to father her child. The season ended with the couple in bed and in love, but it was a fake-out: Booth was hallucinating while in a coma.
Now in Season 5, airing at 7 p.m. Thursdays, they’re still fencing with their feelings.
Deschanel believes that the characters eventually will deal with those emotions in a satisfying way. But when? "I’m thinking [Season] 10," she teases.
More from Deschanel about the show, her character and all those dead bodies:
If we sent you to a college or to a crime scene, how long do you think you could fool everybody before being found out as a fraud?
Maybe 10 to 15 minutes. There’s a lot of stuff that I’ve learned from the show, but there are certain details I can’t pull off. I know you can estimate the height of someone based on the length of the femur, but I don’t know the formula. I read it in a book, but I certainly don’t carry it around in my mind. Brennan is so good at what she does that, after seeing thousands of dead bodies in her life, she can just look at a skeleton and know what that person looked like and how tall they were and what ethnicity and which sex they were. I just know where to look and pretend.
Have you ever, for the sake of research, visited a real morgue?
I’ve never seen a dead body in my life, and I chose not to. I knew that it would affect me. I believe in using your imagination as an actor. That’s the greatest tool we have. My character is supposed to be very at ease with dead bodies. So I didn’t want to risk changing that and feel all of a sudden uneasy. I still have not been to a morgue.
How disturbing are the fake dead bodies on the set?
You kind of get used to them. But I did have family friends who visited the set. Their girl was 5 and their boy was 10 or 11. I was trying to shield her from the bodies, which is a little difficult on our set. It wasn’t a dead-body day, but there are always miscellaneous body parts lying around and we have bodies covered with sheets in the autopsy room. When I gave them the tour, I pulled the sheets open to show her that they were dummies. Well, they left and then I heard from the mom, who wasn’t on the tour. She told me her daughter, whose name is Emily, had said, 'I saw real dead bodies and it was so cool.’ She swore she saw real dead bodies, but I promise there were none.
Do you think Brennan will continue to be so socially awkward, regardless how long the show runs?
If you look from the beginning of season one to now, she has warmed up a lot. I know that sounds crazy, because she still has a long way to go. But she has definitely changed and I think she’s opened up with her emotions. I’ve talked to some psychologists who work with people with Asperger syndrome and basically Brennan has some form of Asperger’s: She’s a genius but has a hard time interacting in social situations. But Brennan is really trying to learn how to relate to people and to open up her emotions and become more sympathetic and all of that.
Source: Star-TelegramAnd Hank Booth is.....Ralph Waite
Sounds like Ralph will need to be spry, considering his character will insist on accompanying his grandson out into the field to investigate “The Foot in the Foreclosure” on the Nov. 19 episode. “This is a really good murder,” promises Nathan. “All that’s left is ash and one foot, and Hank can’t help but tag along.”
The episode kicks off with Hank, recovering from a bypass, leaving a nursing home after getting into physical altercations with his male nurses. “He walks out and comes to live with Booth, whom he raised,” says Nathan. “They’ll try to rekindle the life they had for so many years, but you can never quite reclaim the past.”

Just don’t be surprised if said stepdaughter looks a little different from the last time you saw her. “She is not the same actress! We’re just going to pretend that she is which is always a little odd, very DYNASTY, but they did a really great job of casting,” explained Taylor. “She’s 16, wanting to go to prom, date and all these crazy things that send Cam — who you think would be able to deal with them well — into a minor meltdown.”

Preview of 'Bones' 5.02: Murder by Bond Scale
Early evidence leads the team to suspect secret operatives are at work, and their theories are supported when the liquefied remains of a CIA agent are discovered in the trunk of a car. When Brennan and Booth interrogate the CIA's Assistant Director of Intelligence, they are left unsure of his allegiance to the U.S.
Meanwhile, Brennan's best-selling book leads to financial success and serves as a point of contention with Booth, and Jeffersonian intern Wendell (guest star Michael Grant Terry) loses his scholarship, leaving the team to look for alternative funding to keep him around.
"The Bond in the Boot" airs Thursday, September 24 on FOX.
Chemistry behind rising success of Bones
LOS ANGELES — Hart Hanson is the hidden face of Bones.
And if he’s looking pretty self-satisfied these days, it’s with good reason. The Mississauga, Ont.-raised creator, executive producer and head writer of Bones is riding herd over one of prime time television’s fastest-growing dramas.
On the 20th Century Fox lot where Bones is filmed, Hanson trades witticisms and barbs with stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz after the day’s shoot.
Bones is about to begin its fifth season, and the darkly comic procedural about seemingly mismatched forensic examiners with a growing attraction for each other is coming off its highest-rated season yet.
Bones was loosely based on the life of forensic anthropologist and crime novelist Kathy Reichs. The show ranked a middling 60th in the U.S. Nielsen ratings when it debuted in 2005, with a shade under nine million viewers.
The following year, it rose to 50th, and the year after that, 47th. Last season, Bones edged close to 10 million viewers, good enough to land it in 33rd place. Bones is defying the TV trend that says indifferent debuts almost invariably result in diminishing returns.
Hanson, who has written for Canadian series Traders, Neon Rider, The Odyssey, Road To Avonlea and Ready or Not, says a TV show’s success depends on its writing. But Bones has also clicked because Boreanaz and Deschanel are not cookie-cutter Hollywood models, and they have genuine rapport off-screen. They like each other. Chemistry is one thing you can’t fake, Hanson says.
“They tease each other all the time,” Hanson explained. “And that proves this thing we do, this thing we have, works. Taken out of context, teasing can be hurtful. We’ve learned to trust each other, implicitly.”
Boreanaz, who won the role because, as Hanson noted at the time, he didn’t fit the Hollywood mould of “pretty boy waifs,” says they respect each other.
“If I’m having a bad day or she’s having a bad day, we can talk about it and get through it and use it in our work. It works for us. It motivates the scene and pushes the scene along, and it also helps us find out something new about each other,” says the actor.
In the season opener, Seeley Booth (Boreanaz) and Temperance Brennan’s (Deschanel) on-again/off-again relationship will become more clear, Hanson says, although he’s not about the reveal details.
Deschanel says that one of the things that appeals to her about Brennan’s character is her innocence.
“She has no idea who Britney Spears is, or anything pop-culture related at all. Which I love.
“It’s as though she filled her brain with entirely useful information that she uses in her day-to-day life, so why would she fill it with anything frivolous like Britney Spears?” Deschanel says.
“But I also love the fact that she has contradictions. Brennan did know, for example, who Stewie was from Family Guy. We all have people in our lives who surprise us, and I think that’s what makes it so human.”

Emily Deschanel of 'Bones' Provides Some Answers
Q: Do you hear anything about Brennan's impact on young women who might want to go into science (or crime solving)?
A: A friend of mine just told me that his five-year-old niece wants to be a forensic anthropologist when she grows up because of my character. Of course, five years old is pretty young to watch dead bodies on my show, but I love hearing that girls are interested in science because of my character.
That's what makes the show worth it to me. I think when you do a TV show, you have to think about what kind of images you are putting out there.
Q: We hear about Brennan's exploits in far-off lands - would you like sometime for the show to dig deeper into that? A: Yes! We are doing an episode right now about a mummy. We get to meet a lot of people in archeology and Egyptology. I would love to travel to

Bones Stars Spill the Beans on Season 5
I met up with the cast and creator of Bones at Fox’s Critics’ Association Party last month where they were happy to discuss various aspects of this upcoming season, including inter-office romances and the fallout from last season’s finale.
Executive Producer Hart Hanson says that he is aware of some fans’ negative reaction to the dream sequence in the season 4 finale, but is confident that the first episode of this season will provide answers about Booth’s amnesia. In addition, Hanson sees the season opener as a second part to last season’s finale. The opener, which picks up six weeks after Booth comes out of the coma, sees Dr. Brennan back from Guatamala and Booth still experiencing gaps in his memory.
Later this season we’ll see Brennan and Booth investigating the death of an Amish boy, and in another episode the team heads to a suburban cul-de-sac to investigate a body that has been cooked in a luau pit.
John Francis Daley revealed that Dr. Sweets will be working with Brennan and Booth as always, but the opening episodes will also feature Sweets working with Brennan to help Booth compensate for the memory gaps, which he’s hiding from everyone else for the sake of returning to work. David Boreanaz commented that Sweets always strives towards controlling his sessions with Brennan and Booth, but that continues to be thwarted by the dynamic duo....

Bones' Emily Deschanel and Hart Hanson Dish About Season Five
The fall premiere season is in full swing and Bones fans will want to tune in to the season five premiere this Thursday, September 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. To help get the word out, series star Emily Deschanel (Brennan) and show runner Hart Hanson chatted with the media about what’s up between Booth and Brennan after last season’s hallucinations about sex and how it feels to have a stable spot on the TV schedule.
The first question, unsurprisingly, was whether Booth’s and Brennan’s feelings for each other would be a theme this season. Hanson replied, “Yes, they have to wrestle with the emotions that were uncorked in the season finale,” and Deschanel confirmed that the wrestling will continue all season, with different characters becoming aware of the charged dynamic between the two at different times.
Without giving too much away, Hanson said Brennan would cope “the way she copes with everything in life, which is very rationally and using her big brain instead of her heart ... But you know what we said from the beginning about Brennan is that she doesn’t lack emotions. Quite the contrary, she’s extremely emotional; she just learned early in her life that things were easier for her if she wrapped her emotions very tightly in an armour of intellect and rationalization. That’s what has to be got through for these two people to get closer.”
Asked whether he has a fear that getting the two characters together would ruin the spark they have, Hanson said, “We’re just telling this story in the best way we possibly can in the time we’re guessing that we’re allotted. At the same time, a series and a relationship take on their own momentum, so we’re trying to serve two masters: tell the story the best way we can while telling that story at the same rate that it seems to be demanding of itself.”
Emily Deschanel Talks Bones' Past and Future
The Bones star discusses the premiere, fan debate over last season's finale and more.
US, September 16, 2009 - Bones has turned into a solid hit for FOX since it began four years ago, and goes into Season 5 with a major boon and reward of sorts - a rare two-season pickup, which will take it through Season 6.
I recently spoke to Bones star Emily Deschanel, to chat about all the busy goings on for the series right now. Among the topics we discussed were this week's season premiere, interacting with viewers at Comic-Con and the fan controversy over the imagined events from last season's finale – which teased the 'will they or won't they' vibe between Deschanel's Temperance Brennan and David Boreanaz's Seeley Booth by showing them as a married couple, only to reveal it was Booth's coma-induced fantasy.
IGN TV: The two year pickup has to be a nice vote of confidence – and give you a feeling of comfort and security.
Emily Deschanel: Yes! I never feel total comfort and security I guess, because people can always cancel a show, even though they pick us up. But it's a huge vote of confidence and, you know, it looks good for us. But maybe I'm a don't count your eggs before they hatch kind of person, I don't know. So I just take it one episode at a time. But it's nice to think about having another season after this, and even having this whole season… It is definitely comforting, especially in this day and age when so many people are out of work and so many things are unstable and up in the air...

Fred Fein, FBI Guy
Fred Fein is listed as an FBI Guy for The Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, The Plain in the Prodigy, The Bond in the Boot, as well as Harbingers in the Fountain. Too bad there isn't a picture of him, but we should be able to pick him out of the lineup fairly quickly. This would be the 'revolving door of FBI agents' that is supposed to come on board this season. I love this idea. It makes Booth feel like he's more real and not just a floating actor. I like the idea of him having FBI colleagues and whatnot. In Harbingers, we get that first taste of Booth's FBI colleagues. I'm up for this!
Ausiello on the "Blind Item" and the 100th Episode
Ausiello: You’re not the only one. “I would love to play that first meeting and hate on each other,” says Emily Deschanel with a laugh. “It would be a fun, creative way to explore these two characters and their relationship without just moving forward like we have been. It’s fun to go back.” David Boreanaz is on board, too! “I think it is a pretty great idea for the 100th episode,” he says. “Those episodes are supposed to be special. They’re supposed to be a big deal, and I think that first Booth and Brennan meeting would certainly qualify. I’m directing it, too, so I hope they figure it out soon.”

David Boreanaz is back for another season of "Bones" and has heard rumblings that a second Deschanel may be joining him and his co-star Emily on the show.

Last season left off with Booth (Boreanaz) coping with a brain tumor and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) trying to decide if she wants to have a baby with him — just as friends, but also because the pair are obviously in love with one another. Boreanaz promises that fans will get a lot more of them trying to figure out their relationship this season, all while solving gory crimes.
"Booth has to have something to fall back on," he explained about the possibility of his character using his brain tumor as an excuse to get out of any potential relationship with her. But what happens if she's the one who doesn't want to have the relationship?

Bones: A Blast from the Past
Sounds good? Don't get your hopes up just yet since this blast from the past storyline hasn't been written yet, much less written in stone. On the other hand, I'm guessing that there's a huge possibility the writers are going in with this direction since Hanson is already hinting about it. "It's in the bin of ideas for the 100th episode, but it's a big bin!" Hanson jokes.

Lauper taps into her psychic side on Fox's 'Bones'
That means no flamboyant fashions or clothing with a celestial theme.
"I didn't think she should look like Rhoda from the '70s," jokes Lauper, referring to the TV character made famous by Valerie Harper.
The singer and occasional actress plays Avalon Harmonia, a medium who leads stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz to a crime scene and then becomes a suspect.
"I can read tarot cards but I do it with an instruction manual," jokes Lauper.
The 56-year-old says she enjoyed working on the show because she's a fan of detective stories and enjoys picking up on a character's speech.
"When I sing it's all about rhythm. In acting there's rhythm in the dialogue. Everyone has rhythm of speech and I like to find the rhythm of a character."
She may enjoy acting, but seeing herself on screen is another story.
"No matter how I try to lose myself (in character) there I am," explains Lauper.
Still, viewers may see more of Lauper on the show in the future. Lauper says her story line is left open for a possible return.
"Bones" follows an FBI agent (Boreanaz) and a forensic anthropologist (Deschanel) who are paired up to solve crimes.
The show airs Thursday 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
