(Interview) 'Bones' Boss on the Jeffersonian Team Shake-Up and Brennan's "New Journey"

There’s still one episode of Bones left this season, but the penultimate hour signaled big changes ahead for the Jeffersonian team as the show heads into Season 11.
Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) are taking official steps to moving to Paris, including handing in their notice to Brennan (Emily Deschanel). At the same time, Brennan is becoming much more reliant on her gut instincts and emotions to deal with Booth’s (David Boreanaz) gambling addiction — a change that’s been ten years in the making.
Bones showrunner Stephen Nathan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the changes happening to the team and why the final two episodes of the season have such an eerie "goodbye" feeling...

'Bones' Exclusive Interview: The Writers Talk Brennan and Booth's Future and a Whirlpool Death

Bones writers Kathy and Kerry Reichs spoke with me recently about "The Woman in the Whirlpool," their third co-writing endeavor on Bones, following "The Witch in the Wardrobe" and "The Beaver in the Dam." Most interesting during our discussion was the marriage of science and "universe," or "arena," which Kathy explained is key to the design of every Bones episode. "The Woman in the Whirlpool" weaves together the science of hydrodynamics on bone, and the universe of cookie jar collecting. In addition, the obsessive collecting angle provides a comparison to Booth's gambling addiction and has everyone pondering their own obsessive behaviors as well.

Two episodes away from the 10th season finale, "The Woman in the Whirlpool" has the Jeffersonian team investigating the death of a woman whose remains are suspected to have been caught in an unforgiving whirlpool of one of the only class five rapids east of the Mississippi, where people have been known to disappear for long periods of time...

Tales from the Writers’ Room, Part 3: How an Episode of TV Gets Made

People often ask me how a writer’s room works. Do all the writers work on episodes together, like a snarky, eight-headed hydra, or do we toil away in solitude, typing until our fingers bleed?   The answer is neither, and both. Though I can only speak for Bones specifically, the following essay will walk you through the basic steps of how an episode of television gets made...

Tales from the Writers’ Room: Part Two

So, we are getting ready to shoot my second “Bones” episode. As I mentioned before, seeing something I’ve written turn into an actual thing is one of my favorite parts of the process, even when it’s only trash...

Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Emily Silver

Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on writer and series creator Emily Silver.
Emily started out like many other TV viewers of the 90’s, being a fan of the acclaimed series Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and developing a love of all things Joss Whedon. In fact, she loved Buffy so much that she emulated her idol by getting her own brown belt in tae kwon do. Emily eventually went off to college where she took a screenwriting class that got her started on the path of her current career: writing for television...

We love these authors Just the Way They Are (Fave TV Shows)

Bones. It is my favorite of the favorites. It has David Boreanaz. I adore the way his character and Temperance Brennan are complete opposites. The writers have done an amazing job developing their relationship. And it has David Boreanaz. It was never love-at-first sight between the two of them...

Bones Writer Keith Fogelsong: Crystal Lake friends follow dreams of becoming television writers

Growing up, several Crystal Lake friends declared they’d work for television one day.
And now they’re each living in Los Angeles and writing for three popular television shows.
“They’re really out there doing it,” said Kim Sade, whose son, Keith Foglesong, a 1999 Crystal Lake Central graduate, writes for the Fox series “Bones.” “We’re just so proud.”...

BONES: Karine Rosenthal on Writing the Booth and Brennan Wedding Episode, ‘The Woman in White’

bones-wedding-featured
BONES’ Booth and Brennan are now officially married!
It took 172 episodes, years of banter, a few other love interests, more disgusting bodies than any human should ever recall — and a last-minute fire to the church and case to solve — but Booth and Brennan swapped vows in Monday night’s episode, “The Woman in White.”
The hour was a big one for the series, and to make sure it was given its proper due, they brought back former BONES writer/producer, Karine Rosenthal (who was with the show from 2006 until 2012), to pen the long-awaited nuptials.
It’s no secret I absolutely adored the hour, and Rosenthal was gracious enough to hop on the phone to chat about returning to the series, what she did to prep for the episode, what didn’t make the cut, and more…

BONES Writer Michael Peterson on Bringing Neurofibromatosis Awareness Mainstream in ‘The Doll in the Derby’

While a lot of focus on this Monday’s brand new episode of BONES has landed on the flashy roller derby element of the hour, there’s something else of note going on as well: for the first time in the show’s eight seasons, the series will shed light on the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis.
And while how neurofibromatosis ties directly into the episode is spoilery (I’ll have more for you about that post-airing in order to not ruin the hour), I spoke with BONES writer Michael Peterson (who penned Monday’s episode, “The Doll in the Derby”) about his personal connection to the disease, deciding to finally write it into an episode, and got a few “The Doll in the Derby” teases…

Exclusive Interview: Season 7 BONES chatter from executive producer Carla Kettner

On BONES, which airs on Fox Mondays at 8 PM, forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, played by David Boreanaz, have teamed up to catch murderers. Though the relationship on the series, created by Hart Hanson from the novels by Kathy Reichs, has had its ups and downs, in the present seventh season, Brennan and Booth are now in a committed romantic relationship with one another, complete with baby daughter Christine. Brennan’s pregnancy began at the end of Season Six, as it was known that actress Deschanel was pregnant in real life with her first child and would be showing/delivering in Season Seven.

The replacement of BONES’ will they/won’t they dynamic with the current yes-they-do situation seems to be making viewers happy, as the show has been renewed for an eighth season. Carla Kettner, one of BONES’ executive producers with creator Hanson and Stephen Nathan, talks about where the show has been and where it may be going. ...

BONES: Hart Hanson and Carla Kettner Tease What You Need to Know About Season 7 (Part 1)

While most shows will be returning to our televisions in the next month or so, BONES fans still have to wait two-plus months before they get resolution on that little Booth and Brennan baby cliffhanger. However, the delayed start date hasn’t stopped spoilers from leaking out about the upcoming year.

“I think there’s too much stuff out there [about the new season] already,” BONES creator Hart Hanson told me at the recent Fox TCA party. Still, he and BONES writer Carla Kettner were willing to tease a few things fans should know about season 7…
