BONES: Stephen Nathan on Saying Goodbye to the Show (For Now)

As BONES’ tenth season comes to an end, characters could be making some major life-changing decisions.

Whether those changes come to fruition or not, the team will have to deal with a significant challenge in Thursday’s season finale: a case brings (the still-dead) Pelant back into the team’s life.

And while BONES will return for an 11th season this fall, its long-time showrunner, Stephen Nathan, is stepping down. (BONES writers Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson will run season 11.)

When Nathan’s exit was announced, Fox shared that in the immediate future, he would be working on other projects, but he planned on returning “later” in season 11. Nathan — who has worked on the Fox drama since the first season — echoed that sentiment to me during a recent interview sharing, “It’s time to take a step back, get a little bit of perspective, do some other things, and then come back a little refreshed, hopefully.”

But with his (temporary) goodbye looming, I asked Nathan how he felt about leaving the series, for now, and what about the experience has meant the most to him/what he was most proud of. His answers are below, and speak (beautifully) to what the show has meant to him throughout the years. (And be sure to check back here after the BONES finale for a post-mortem with Nathan about what went down)…

(Video) Bones EP Stephan Nathan talks Booth's gambling, teases 'emotional' season finale

Between Brennan’s second pregnancy and Booth’s gambling relapse, Bones has kept busy in the back half of season 10. Last week’s penultimate episode brought some resolution to Booth and Brennan’s relationship problems, but as Booth moves back home, there’s a new change on the horizon: Hodgins and Angela are moving to Paris. EW caught up with executive producer Stephen Nathan to get his view on the season so far—and what to expect from tomorrow’s finale. (Check back here after it airs for his post-mortem thoughts.)...

(Interview) 'Bones' Boss on the Jeffersonian Team Shake-Up and Brennan's "New Journey"

There’s still one episode of Bones left this season, but the penultimate hour signaled big changes ahead for the Jeffersonian team as the show heads into Season 11.
Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) are taking official steps to moving to Paris, including handing in their notice to Brennan (Emily Deschanel). At the same time, Brennan is becoming much more reliant on her gut instincts and emotions to deal with Booth’s (David Boreanaz) gambling addiction — a change that’s been ten years in the making.
Bones showrunner Stephen Nathan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the changes happening to the team and why the final two episodes of the season have such an eerie "goodbye" feeling...

Bones Boss Previews Brennan and Booth's Marital 'Strain,' Angela and Hodgins' 'Huge' Life Reexamination

As Bones‘ main couple begins to face a major challenge that threatens to tear their marriage apart in this Thursday’s episode (Fox, 8/7c), their friends/colleagues Angela and Hodgins will be looking towards the next step for their own clan.

“Like a yawn spreads, it will be an examination that rubs off on Booth and Brennan,” executive producer Stephen Nathan tells TVLine. “They also have to look at the life they’ve been leading and how it affects their family and how it might affect their family in the future.”

Given that the pair has been imprisoned, shot at and had their house destroyed, they have to decide, “Is this the life they want to raise children in?”

Read on as Nathan talks gambling troubles, baby names, marriage for another couple, Season 11’s time jump and more...

Bones star Emily Deschanel, EP Stephen Nathan tease changes for Booth and Brennan

The last we saw of Bones was its 200th episode, an homage to Hitchcock that reimagined Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) as characters in an old Hollywood film. After the show’s longest midseason hiatus yet, Bones returns Thursday with all new episodes—and, thanks to Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy, an expanding family. Are Booth and Brennan ready for more kids? Is there a season-ending cliffhanger on the horizon? And when the 206th episode makes Bones Fox’s longest-running hourlong drama, will the show be marking the occasion?...

(Article) Emily Deschanel and Stephen Nathan – Bones

Q) Can you start by talking a bit about how Brennan’s pregnancy is going to be handled this season like differently than before?
Stephen: I’ll talk briefly and then since you’re really doing all the literally the heavy carrying I’ll pass it back to you.  Really the pregnancy is just going to have a little bit more impact on them this season I think because Brennan now realizes what it is to have a child, having the family expand and grow and now she knows the tremendous risk that she and Booth’s job have in terms of how it affects their family.  So, she’s going to have to deal with that, something that I think she was a bit oblivious to before, because she didn’t have the experience, so there are emotional considerations that surprise Brennan and will affect the pregnancy for the rest of the season...

(Video) Bones 200th Video: David Boreanaz Pours His Heart Out to Emily Deschanel

“Em, I thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for being there as a friend, being there as somebody who I love working with and as someone who’s always kept my chin up,” he says. “I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done and what you mean to me.”

Surprise return in Bones 200th episode

Surprise return in Bones 200th episode

bones200Preview1
It’s a feat that very few shows accomplish, but after 10 seasons on the air, Bones 200th episode finally arrives on Thursday night. It’s a pretty huge milestone if we do say so ourselves. The show is glamming things up with an Alfred Hitchcock inspired theme that will find Booth and Brennan in an alternate reality and asks the question of whether or not these characters would still end up together?
All signs point to this being a huge episode, not only in theme, but in number of guest stars and recurring characters from the past that will also be appearing. We here at The TV Junkies couldn’t contain our excitement any longer, and had to go straight to the Bones‘ showrunner himself, executive producer Stephen Nathan, for more details about what we can expect...

Stephen Nathan Talks Bones 200th

On Thursday Bones will air its 200th episode, which by all accounts is an achievement all by itself. However, to mark the occasion, the cast and crew put together the hardest episode creatively, that they’ve ever done, according to Bones boss Stephen Nathan.
Following in the style of iconic filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock’s movies of the 1940’s and 50’s “The 200th in the 10th” is an homage to the glamor of 1950’s Hollywood, and an opportunity for the cast to makeover their characters in classic style...

(Youtube, Videos) The BONES Cast and Producers Tease Episode 200

BONES is telling a different kind of story for its 200th episode — sure, a body is discovered, but the episode is set in Hollywood in the 1950s, and Brennan is a cop, while Booth is a jewel thief. And since the hour is bringing back a lot of familiar faces, I asked BONES executive producers Stephen Nathan and Jonathan Collier, as well as stars David Boreanaz (Booth), Emily Deschanel (Brennan), Michaela Conlin (Angela), TJ Thyne (Hodgins), Tamara Taylor (Cam), John Boyd (Aubrey), Carla Gallo (Daisy), Eugene Byrd (Clark), Michael Grant Terry (Wendell), Pej Vahdat (Arastoo), Laura Spencer (Jessica), Ignacio Serricchio (Fuentes) for their best teases about the hour…

Q&A Interview with BONES EP Stephen Nathan About 200th Episode + Potential Season 11

Earlier today, TV Tango participated in a conference call with BONES Executive Producer Stephen Nathan, who dished a few details about the show's 200th episode, reflected on the first 10 seasons of the show, and revealed encouraging signs for an eleventh season. We transcribed and edited the call, while also removing one or two minor spoilers about who appears in the 200th episode. On Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT, FOX will premiere the "The 200th in the 10th" episode of BONES. In this miletone 200th episode, directed by David Boreanaz, BONES pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock in an episode that reimagines the Jeffersonian and FBI teams in 1950s Hollywood. Brennan plays an LAPD detective who's battling sexism on the force, and Booth is a notorious jewel thief who is far more than he seems to be. When Booth is framed for the murder of a rich socialite, he and Brennan team up to clear his name and find the true identity of the murderer.

Question: How did you come up with the idea for concept for the 200th episode? How did you choose the roles characters would play? ...
