Ask Ausiello: June 28

Question: Now that we know Bones will pick up the new season with Brennan in her third trimester, I’m really hoping there will be flashbacks to those missing months. It would be pretty strange not to see how everyone reacts to her pregnancy. What does your crystal ball tell you? —Louise
Ausiello:
It’s only telling me what happens in the Nov. 3 premiere, titled “The Memories in the Shallow Grave” — an episode that does find Booth and Brennan dwelling on the past, albeit the very distant past. “The first case involves a victim trying to recover her memory,” exec producer Stephen Nathan divulges. “This will play into Booth and Brennan dealing with the memories of growing up, of their families, and what it means for them to create new memories for the family they are forming. And, because of their inherent differences, they also have to decide what kind of family they are going to be.”

Fox Announces Its Fall Premiere Dates

But fans of Bones might want to sit down for this news: The show's new season is being held all the way until November 3.

It's not that Fox wouldn't like to have Bones on earlier. But with star Emily Deschanel (and her onscreen alter ego) pregnant, it wouldn't be surprising if producers wanted to give her as much time off as possible. What's more, the combination of the launch of The X Factor (it will air two-hour episodes on Thursdays early in its run) and the fact that Game 2 of the World Series will be a week earlier this year (on October 20) combined to make a November debut a more attractive option. (UPDATE: Bones creator Hart Hanson just told us he's "oddly -- and uncharacteristically --... OK with this push to airing in November. For one thing, the Fox honchos were good about explaining their programming logic so... I understand that it's not slapdash or ill-considered. But this year the late premiere works for us in that it will probably allow us to air the six episodes we are likely to be able to shoot before Emily has her baby. If we started earlier, we would not be able to supply enough episodes to get us to Christmas. My personal bias is to run as many episodes as possible in the same time slot in an unbroken string, which the late premier allows us to do." In other words, dear Bones fans, you can hold off on the hate e-mails to Fox.)...

'Bones' season 7 premiere title and timeline spoilers

Television series sometimes have a season premiere pick up right where the previous season's finale ended or they allow for some passage of time. What will be the case for the Fox drama, Bones, which ended with Brennan telling Booth she's pregnant with his baby?

According to TVLine, the season 7 premiere's title is "The Memories in the Shallow Grave." That's not all that has been revealed about the first episode of the new season. Executive producer Stephen Nathan has also given some information about what to expect in terms of time passing when the show starts again: "The first episode will pick up with Brennan moving into the third trimester of her pregnancy. Brennan is still the same strong character and shows no sign of slowing down. She attacks each case as she always has, although she must now deal with the realities of being pregnant. Small spaces are a challenge."...

Hart Hanson of Bones Reflects on (Anti)Social Media

Hart Hanson has a lot of reasons to be grateful for Bones fans. They helped turn the show he created into an indisputable, if unassuming, hit: it was FOX’s number one scripted series for the 2010/11 season, and its spinoff, The Finder has been picked up for next season. But there's also a downside to success, especially on social media sites where some of the most passionate fans can be less than sociable...

EMILY DESCHANEL TALKS ABOUT WHY PEOPLE STILL DIG ‘BONES’

After seven seasons and 129 episodes in the can, the FOX hit series Bones continues to have a large fan base. Many have different reasons why they love the show, including the chemistry between the cast members, and the fun stories that each episode features.

Recently, we spoke to Emily Deschanel who plays Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, and asked her why she thinks the show is successful after all these seasons...

Mega Buzz June 7

Is it just me, or did Brennan seem shocked that Booth was happy about her being pregnant on Bones? — Josh
ADAM:
It's not just you. "There was a little something in that," executive producer Stephen Nathan says. "She's spent six years slowly becoming more and more in touch with a softer side of herself. And this was sort of one final emotional touch from Booth that says, 'You can enjoy this. You can accept this as the most wonderful thing in the world.'"

'Bones' season 7: Could Tina Majorino return?

In the penultimate episode of Bones season 6, "The Hole in the Heart," Booth (David Boreanaz) hunted down sniper Jacob Broadsky (Arnold Vosloo) once and for all, and he was joined by another FBI agent, Genevieve Shaw, played by Tina Majorino...

'Bones' Bits: Characters Returning and Replaced

Yes, the show is off the air. But it is not off of our minds yet, so there is still plenty to report. We don't know where Bones is going with that little pregnancy thing yet, unfortunately. Sorry. You'll just have to be satisfied with other pieces of Bones and Finder news.

Thanks to some information picked up from TVLine, we can report some casting rumors from both Bones and The Finder. Of course, thanks to the time of the year, none of this is definite. What can you do?...

Ausiello: June 7th - Tina Majorino Returning?

Question: What are the chances of Tina Majorino returning to Bones next season? She was the best part of final sniper episode! —Hillary
Ausiello:
I think the chances are very good. Awesome, in fact. “We love Tina,” gushes executive producer Stephen Nathan, “and would love to have her back next year.”

63rd Primetime Emmys: Ballots

Bones is on several lists including Directing and Performers.

Ask Ausiello: June 7th

Question: With Bones going on a three-month mid-season break to accommodate Emily Deschanel’s maternity leave, how many original episodes does that leave us with in Season 7? —Rex
Ausiello:
If I were a betting man — not an addict, just a fan of the casual bet every now and then — I’d say more than 13 but less than 18. And just so we’re clear I do not have a gambling problem.

Question: Any news on who’s replacing Saffron Burrows on The Finder? —Missy
Ausiello:
The role hasn’t been cast, but I can tell you producers are looking for someone considerably younger than Burrows. We’re talking half her age. According to the latest intel, the new character — Willa — will be around 17. Much like Burrows’ alter ego, Willa has a criminal background and some hidden skills that Walter and Leo will put to good use. (Mackenzie Rosman, call your agent!)

Ask Matt: June 6th

Question: Love your column and insight into our favorite shows. One thing that bothered me as Bones' season ended is the dynamic that children will play in the coming season. One thing I enjoyed about the show was that it dealt mostly with the storyline and only gave glimpses each week into character backgrounds, and only when they pertained to the storyline. I'm afraid with the introduction of two babies, it will turn into half soap opera, half procedural. Hodgins was already trying my patience as an insecure, psychotic father to be. He would have been better left as the rich, clever scientist dedicated to his work. No way I see Bones dedicated to her work while she cares for a baby. I know you hate the jump-the-shark term, but this bothers me because I really like the original premise of the show. — John

Matt Roush: Some would probably argue Bones crossed the line into being half-a-soap (if not more) a long time ago. The tone of many of the comments and questions I've been fielding since the reveal of Bones' pregnancy certainly feels that way. Your concern is a fair one, because who wants to tune in to a forensics version of Parenthood? But I imagine they'll soon enough install a nursery adjacent to the Jeffersonian lab, and everyone can get back to business — although it seems like it's been a while since the weekly mystery was the primary focus of this show. Case in point: The next question.

Question: Doesn't everyone realize that Bones did the same thing that The X-Files did many years ago? The main characters hook up off-screen and the result is that the woman (Bones in this case) becomes pregnant. I'm sick of reading stories from the producers about how this was an "original" way to get the characters together. I'm insulted as a fan. I wanted to see that moment between Bones and Booth and now I never will. Even if they do it in a flashback, it won't be the same. What are your thoughts on this? — Rebecca

Matt Roush: I'm afraid I'm of the old school that thinks some things should be left to the imagination, but I'm clearly in the minority on this subject. Carol wrote in wanting someone to explain "how Temperance can be pregnant with Booth's child when we, the audience, were never privy to a sexual relationship between them. I love the idea, but I'm wondering if I missed something." In this case, I think it's implied, because nothing about Bones is immaculate. Others called back to the storyline a while ago about Booth donating sperm to inseminate Bones' eggs, although it seems pretty clear this baby came from their recent snuggle. Anne S, who agrees "there was no doubt in my mind that they were indeed sleeping together," is among those who, like Rebecca, is pleading with Hart Henson to "please give us some bed time that will knock our socks off!!!!" (And we all know Booth is all about the socks.)" Honestly, folks. Isn't this what fan fiction is for? (Or so I hear.)
