If you’ve been looking forward to Brennan and Booth’s next kiss… you may need to look backward.
Speaking to ‘Bones‘ creator Hart Hanson about the Fox series’ 100th episode – which airs April 8 and flashes back to the very first time the couple worked together – I asked if he had long wanted to revisit their first case.
Hanson, though, misheard me.
“Did I say it was their first kiss?” he responded, quickly turning coy. “Because I could have.”
For once, my tendency to mumble pays (possible) dividends!
Sensing chum in the waters, I asked both Hanson and series star Emily Deschanel if “back in the day,” Booth perhaps made a play for Bones and was rudely rebuffed. That would explain why things were chilly ‘tween the two in the series pilot.
“There are many possibilities of why we ended up not liking each other,” Deschanel answered. “I can’t say why, but it will be revealed in the episode.”
Although the milestone ‘Bones’ outing takes place in large part in the past, longtime viewers can expect long-term reverberations from the duo’s revisiting of their first case (-slash-kiss?).
The episode “sheds new light on the relationship between Booth and Bones and kind of changes it forever,” says Deschanel. “Just like [Booth's brain surgery storyline] did, but this even more so.”
