"We have this idea called 'Fox Rocks' where we take music and drive it through our whole schedule - House, Bones, everything," Fox President Kevin Reilly tells me exclusively. "Every show will be embracing this to a greater or lesser extent. Everybody can pick whatever they want to do. They can do a football musical. You can take a piece of music and let it inspire your storytelling. So we'll see how it goes in May."
Clearly, this will prove more challenging for some shows than others. House star Hugh Laurie, an accomplished pianist, can bang out a few bars, and I hear Bones is already conceptualizing a possible murder plot set in the world of opera. Animated comedy series like The Simpsons and Family Guy shouldn't have much of a problem working in ditties for our listening pleasure, though these types of series, for technical reasons, usually complete work with their voice talents up to a year in advance to allow animators ample time to work their magic.
