UK Premiere Press Release

Created by Hart Hanson and inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and best-selling novelist Kathy Reichs, BONES follows forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan (Deschanel) and FBI Agent Seeley Booth’s (Boreanaz) work at the Jeffersonian institute solving crimes when the bodies are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that only the victim’s bones can provide clues to their fate.

With a sizzling chemistry that sets the screen alight, Brennan, with her scientific acumen, and Booth, with his former Army sniper training and people-smarts, make the perfect team, but as season five begins their relationship faces a number of new challenges. After suffering with hallucinations at the end of season four, Booth was diagnosed with a brain tumour requiring urgent surgery, during which he had a vivid dream in which he and Brennan were married and ran a nightclub. On waking from surgery Booth’s memory has been badly affected and he doesn’t know who Brennan is.

As BONES Season five begins, six weeks later, Brennan has returned from an archaeological dig abroad to face up to the potential changes in her relationship with Booth, and Booth is analysing his true feelings for Brennan. As the two leads struggle with their feelings, Hanson has hinted that there will be “a very very romantic moment in the season opener” between the pair.

Joining the cast for the first two episodes will be guest star Cyndi Lauper playing Avalon Harmonia, a psychic whom Jeffersonian colleague Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin) turns to for help with a case. But when she directs the team to the location of a mass burial site, Avalon becomes the prime suspect. It has also been confirmed that Brendan Fehr will return for two or three episodes as Booth’s brother and Brennan’s former love interest, Jared.

Season five will also see the return of fan favourite Stephen Fry in the role of psychiatrist Gordon Gordon Wyatt, last seen helping Booth, Brennan and Sweets bond over their childhood traumas. Further details of Stephen’s role are yet to be announced.

Returning in Season five to make up the rest of the Jeffersonian team are conspiracy theorist and “bug guy” Dr.Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne), who is an expert on insects, spores and minerals, and Dr. Camille “Cam” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor), the street-smart coroner. Brilliant young psychologist Dr. Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley) will also be back to continue providing “couples therapy” to Booth and Brennan, as well as profiling murderers and interrogating suspects.

And as the series celebrates its 100th episode, leading man David Boreanaz steps behind the camera to direct the milestone instalment, provisionally scheduled to transmit in March 2010.

A ratings winner, Bones delivers the perfect mix of humour, drama and gore, made all the more real in high definition. Bones season five premieres on Sky1 HD and Sky1 on Thursday 8th October at 9pm.
