ET Article: Will Booth & Brennan Hook Up On 'Bones'?

Last season, "Bones" executive producer Hart Hanson promised fans that Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) would end up in bed together. And they did -- sort of -- leaving many fans unhappy.

So, is there any chance that it will happen this season?

"Do you honestly think I am going to answer that question after what I went through last season?" Hanson tells ET.
And exec producer Stephen Nathan jokes, "I'm here to say, don't ever listen to Hart! Just don't listen to a word the man says. He lies!"

What fans did get to see was either a fantasy that came from the book that Brennan was reading as she waited for Booth to recover from brain surgery; or a dream that Booth was having as a result of the same surgery.
But Deschanel tells ET that the fact that they wound up in bed together -- even if it was in their minds -- will change their interaction going into season five.

"That changes our relationship for good," she says. "Basically he wakes up and you don't know whether it was his coma, or my books, or both … in some way. The fact that it was in our minds does, in fact, change our relationship and, you will see, it changes our relationship even more than just being in our minds."
Hanson agrees, adding, "[They] look at each other differently and it's quite evident, especially in the first episode, you see the relationship has evolved because of that experience."

That said, Deschanel, who went to "Comic-Con 2009" this year with Hanson, says that fans are divided on whether or not they want the couple to actually get together.

"When we were at Comic-Con, they polled the audience on who wanted to see Booth and Brennan together and, then, who didn't want to see them together," she says. "It sounded like more didn't want to see them together. So you feel like people are voting both ways. I think it's push-pull, because you want to see them together, but what will happen to them together? That episode was a way to kind of do both and it can disappoint and also get some excited. We care about what the audience thinks and wants but, at the same time, they are kind of contradicting themselves."

And Hanson says, "I've learned my lesson. You want people reacting to your show. The best thing for me is when, this sounds awful but it's true, when the audience fights amongst itself I feel like we've done something right. I feel that if everybody loved everything all the time, they would be bored in a season. I could be wrong but that's just my feeling."

New episodes of "Bones" begin airing Thursday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
