Inside the Hitchcock-Inspired Score to 'Bones' 200th Episode

When the 200th episode of Bones aired in December, fans might have momentarily thought they’d tuned into TCM instead of Fox, as the procedural celebrated a decade on the air by transporting the cast 60 years back in time. For no other reason than the sheer fun of it, the hour imagined the cast transported into a glamorous 1950s Alfred Hitchcock comedy-thriller. But if you’re going to pay homage to Hitchcock, it’s a given that you’re also going to have to offer a nod and a wink to Bernard Herrmann — or at least make some effort to recreate a lavish style of suspense-film music that hasn’t been heard much in a half-century...

(About B&B's House) Something Old, Something New: ‘Bones’ Hits 200

Fox Studios’ long-running television drama “Bones,” now in its 10th season, will reach a milestone tonight, Dec. 11, that few shows ever achieve: It will air its 200th episode, “The 200th in the 10th.”  Soon to become the longest-running show in Fox history (with its 206th episode), “The 200th in the 10th” is a special homage to filmmaker great Alfred Hitchcock and the glory days of Hollywood.  Leading man and director of the episode David Boreanaz, who normally plays FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, is putting on his best Cary Grant as a jewel thief accused of murder. His usual partner in solving crimes, Dr. Temperance Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, has morphed into the canny cop trying to catch him. In true “To Catch a Thief” style, the two antagonists find common romantic ground. A cast list full of guest stars like Ryan O’Neal and guitarist Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top are also scheduled to appear...

(Video, Youtube) BONES Composer Sean Callery Talks Scoring ‘The 200th in the 10th’

BONES’ 200th episode is taking the show to a place it has never gone before: Hollywood in the 1950s. The show dove into the era in “The 200th in the 10th,” with the stars in the appropriate hair/clothes/makeup, and the way the show is shot even resembles some of the more iconic 1950s movies. And, appropriately, the score reflects the time, too, and composer Sean Callery (who has also worked on 24, HOMELAND, and ELEMENTARY) got to do something new for the show — he worked with a live band. I spoke with Callery about working on this episode, and what aspects of the score he’s most excited for fans to hear…

Being a milestone, “The 200th in the 10th” brings something out of the ordinary for the series: The episode stars its regular cast in their respective roles, but it’s set in 1950s Hollywood, employing an Alfred Hitchcock-esque style, and acting as a standalone for the series...

Surprise return in Bones 200th episode

Surprise return in Bones 200th episode

bones200Preview1
It’s a feat that very few shows accomplish, but after 10 seasons on the air, Bones 200th episode finally arrives on Thursday night. It’s a pretty huge milestone if we do say so ourselves. The show is glamming things up with an Alfred Hitchcock inspired theme that will find Booth and Brennan in an alternate reality and asks the question of whether or not these characters would still end up together?
All signs point to this being a huge episode, not only in theme, but in number of guest stars and recurring characters from the past that will also be appearing. We here at The TV Junkies couldn’t contain our excitement any longer, and had to go straight to the Bones‘ showrunner himself, executive producer Stephen Nathan, for more details about what we can expect...

'Bones' Teasers: 7 Reasons the 200th Episode Will Be One of Your Favorites

Folks, seven minutes into watching the Bones 200th episode, "The 200th in the 10th" and already I wanted the 45 minutes of the show to stretch out to a couple of hours. The cinematography is rich and delicious. The dialog is smooth and dry. The characterization manages to magically reflect the mood and aesthetic of the 50s without tampering with the quintessential characterizations of the people we have fallen in love with over and over these last ten years of Bones viewing.

I suppose you're going to want to know more than the simple fact that this just may very well be one of the absolute best stinkin' Bones episodes ever of the fun variety. Seriously, I didn't want it to end. But let's get down to business. How can I tease you without robbing you of the pleasure of this feast for the eyes, ears and heart? I will try, my dear Boneheads, because you deserve this love letter as much as I do. So, where shall we start?...

'Bones' at 200: Cast and Crew Talk History, Hitchcock and the Long Haul

This story first appeared in the Dec. 19 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
There's nothing outwardly glamorous about making a broadcast television procedural — which makes walking through Bones' expansive, sun-drenched offices a bit startling. Tucked away off one of the quieter backstreets in the northwest corner of the 20th Century Fox lot in Century City, the plush space is the envy of many a neighboring executive producer...
