BONES: Stephen Nathan on Why They Opted for the Wendell Twist

BONES has had its fair share of sad storylines, but tonight’s reveal that Wendell has cancer — and a very often fatal kind of bone cancer at that — is up there as one of the most heartbreaking moves the show has done. And while viewers may be a little down that the show chose to go down this path with Wendell, BONES boss Stephen Nathan told me this was the only character they seriously discussed making sick.

“You know, we wanted it to be someone who was also close with Booth,” Nathan pointed out. “And Booth’s relationship with Wendell is natural; they play hockey together. It would impact Brennan and Booth in very, very personal ways.”...

BONES Post-Mortem: Michael Grant Terry Talks About the Heartbreaking Wendell Twist in ‘Big in the Philippines’

On tonight’s episode of BONES, a seemingly routine sports injury ended up revealing a much more heartbreaking reality: when Brennan was baffled by Wendell’s newly broken arm, she dug around and realized he actually had a rare form of bone cancer. I spoke with Michael Grant Terry (Wendell) about finding out about his character’s new arc, his hopes for this storyline, and more…

How did they tell you Wendell would be facing cancer?

Michael Grant Terry: I actually got an email from [BONES creator] Hart [Hanson] a couple weeks before the episode that said, “Don’t panic,” and I’d be getting cancer in the next episode. Which was nice to hear, to get a pre-emptive strike on it. And when I got the script, it was beautiful, and I was really excited [BONES star] David [Boreanaz] was directing. I think it’s my fourth episode working with him [that way], and he’s just lovely to work with as a director....

TVLine: Performer of the Week, Emily Deschanel Honorable Mention for 'Big' Episode

HONORABLE MENTION | Wow. Hours later there is still much dust in the air as we reflect on this week’s Bones, in which Emily Deschanel‘s Brennan discovered — and then had to relay the devastating news — that squintern Wendell Bray had Ewing’s sarcoma, a bone cancer that offers as low as a 10 percent survival rate. Over the course of several scenes (including Brennan confiding her grim discovery to Booth, the two of them informing Wendell and a warm moment between the three at the house), Deschanel displayed an atypically emotional Brennan, to the point that the brilliant doc was barely able to disclose the diagnosis to her colleague. Perhaps the most heartbreaking note in her performance: Later in the lab, an informed Wendell laments, “We were becoming a good team, weren’t we?” To which Brennen corrected, after a beat, “We are…. We are a good team, Mr. Bray.”

Charlie Worsham Explains How He Dies On TV’s “Bones” Tonight To Good Morning Guys

I have to admit to being a big Charlie Worsham fan. His debut CD “Rubberband” is one of my favorite CD’s of the last year and he has become a good friend of the Good Morning Guys. He even came into the studio live to sing for us during last years 28 Hours of Hope. Charlie had a big hit with his debut single “Could It Be” and his new song “Want Me Too” is set to be a big smash as well. Charlie is adding a new talent to his resume tonight when he plays a country singer on the hit TV show “Bones”. He gets murdered. So sad. We talked to Charlie about his “death” this morning.

Charlie Worsham Talks About His Upcoming Role On “Bones” – Frogmen Interview

Charlie Worsham has made a name for himself in country music, now he’s extending his talents to acting.  Charlie is appearing on an episode of “Bones” tonight.
Charlie is adding to the list of country stars that have been in TV shows, but he’s taking it one step farther and getting killed. Charlie will be playing a country music singer on tonight’s (January 17) episode of “Bones”. He joked that he had to “lose some weight” for the role. The episode will also feature some of Charlie’s music. He told us in one scene they’re playing his music while they’re looking at his bones on a table.
Take a listen to Charlie’s full interview...

9 Scoops on Bones “Big in the Philippines”

1. No Thank You
Do NOT eat during the opening scene. Even the coyotes on set ralphed (spewed, tossed their cookies, puked … take your pick) when they got close to this week’s remains. Oh, and there’s mutilated genitalia in this episode, but not as bad as the shredded crotch of the sperm-donor in “The Dude in the Dam.”...

Do you have anything interesting on a Bones that you or Ausiello haven’t previously teased? –Cassidy
I’m not one to bust out the old “Have a Kleenex handy” line, but next Friday’s episode, in which Brennan comes to suspect that squintern Wendall’s hockey injury may be about something more, could very well open up your waterworks, thanks in part to the fine work of Emily Deschanel and director David Boreanaz.
