Bones First Look: Check Out the Movie Versions of Booth and Brennan

Tipsters: , omelette73

Ask Matt: April 30

Question: Bones has always been one of the worst offenders of "embedded advertising," but a recent episode reached a new level of ridiculous. Sure, I'll buy that everyone on the show drives a Toyota, but the "Look at my fancy GPS! And I get sports scores!" conversation between Booth and Sweets had me rolling my eyes and saying "Seriously?" I can deal with the Toyota promotion on Modern Family, where everyone drives them but doesn't constantly talk about all the awesome features of their cars, so why is Bones so in your face about it? Who makes the decisions for such obnoxious advertising within shows, and why is it worse on some shows than others? Are we likely to see more embedded advertising since more people are DVRing shows and fast forwarding through commercials — Alex F
Matt Roush: I didn't see this particular episode, but I can't say I'm surprised. Product placement has become more obvious and intrusive in this DVR age, and some do it better than others. Any time you feel like you're watching an ad instead of a show, it's not a good thing for the show — and most times not the advertiser, because it rarely breeds good will. But in many cases this is the cost of doing business and staying alive in this new marketplace, so the answer to your question is yes, it's likely to get worse before it gets better, if it ever does.

May 14: “The Past in the Present” (Season Finale)
Evil tech genius Christopher Pelant (guest star Andrew Leeds), a suspect in a previous case Brennan and Booth handled, is back in court on appeal. That Button's No Mistake!

Hello, Bones fans! I think this is the first personal post I've made in a verrrrry long time on this site. I've had so much fun posting and writing for this blog. Bones fans are truly the BEST fans EVER. There's no mistaking that fact! Anyway, as you'll notice, to your right on this blog is a button that says WALK NOW FOR AUTISM SPEAKS. In September, I'll be walking for Autism Speaks in the Seattle area (and if you're nice, I'll post a picture of me on the walk... preferably BEFORE the walk, lest I look sweaty and gross and you think I never shower, which is honestly rather difficult with a 5 month old and a 5 year old, but now we're getting off topic)! Long story short, I'll be walking for Autism Speaks and raising money for research. My own nephew has low-functioning autism. At the age of 16 (and I can bet there are a few 16 year olds reading this now), he wears diapers and he can say, "Hi" and "Mom" and "No". There might be another word here or there, I'm not sure. He's considered non-verbal, however. He communicates by pointing at pictures on his talking box when he's at school. When he's really upset (usually by being in an unusual situation, not having things happen predictably or by things being too loud or chaotic), he'll bite his hands, hit his head and/or scream. Such behaviors are common for autistic children. As you all know, Brennan and Zack have been theorized as having Asperger's (which is also known as high functioning autism). Their autistic behaviors include social aloofness (sometimes autistic kids have a hard time recognizing emotion or having eye-contact with peers) and high intelligence (which isn't common with people with autism, although sometimes it's true with those who have high functioning autism). There is no cure for autism at the moment, just therapies and some drugs to manage symptoms. Some researchers believe a combination of three genes are the cause of autism. Some believe a combination of hundreds are the cause. The combination is what makes it tricky to pinpoint. Research is coming along, however! Especially thanks to people who raise money and walk for autism.

So... the button to your right is no mistake. It's a button to my personal fundraiser page. If you choose to support me in my walk (which I'm really pumped about!!!), thank you! If not, just wish me well and keep watching Bones (that makes me happy, too!!!). Also, please, if you are under the age of 18, do not donate without permission from an adult! :) Thanks!

Bones | As many longtime viewers have wanted, the Fox drama on April 23 will explore the impact baby Christine has not just on her crime solving parents, but on Booth’s first child. As executive producer Stephen Nathan tells the Inside Line, “When Parker finally returns to meet his new sister after being overseas with his mother, Booth walks on eggshells to make sure his son feels a part of their new family.” Alas, as anyone whose ever had more than one child can attest, “Things are never as easy as we want them to be,” Nathan previews, “for Booth and Brennan or for Parker.”

Question: Will we get a wedding between Booth and Brennan on Bones in the near future? —Joy
Ausiello: Brennan will have to soften her anti-marriage stance before there’s any question-popping, let alone knot-tying. For her part, Emily Deschanel says her alter ego is slowly coming around. “She’s always been against marriage – at least for herself – and has seen no need for it,” the actress points out. “But maybe after having a child it will become more important to her. You saw her wanting him to ask her, but him putting it back in her court. It seems she may consider it now.” And for the record, Deschanel “absolutely” believes Brennan is capable of doing the proposing herself. “Brennan would be fine asking a man if she felt that was a rational thing to do.”

Behind the Scenes: The Bump in the Road

From CASTLE to BONES: Is the MOONLIGHTING Curse Still Relevant Today?

In Hollywood, there is no more dreaded catch phrase than “The Moonlighting Curse.” For those old enough to remember, MOONLIGHTING was the hot comedy-drama of the 1980’s, starring Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis. The show consistently scored high ratings until one disastrous night – its core characters David and Maddie slept together at the end of the show’s third season. After achieving its highest ratings ever, it was all downhill from there – at least in the ratings. It went from 9th place the Nielsen list to 14th place during its next season, and then was cancelled after limping through one more final season. Ever since then, shows that are dependent on the “will they or won’t they” hooks to their premise tend to religiously avoid killing the cash-cow and make sure their hot couples never get together, or to postpone it as long as humanly possible (such as waiting until the series finale). The thought being that popping the “romantic-tension bubble” spells doom for any television show. ...

A Candid Conversation with BONES Star Tamara Taylor

As anyone who was fortunate enough to attend the recent Paley Festival panel honoring the hit Fox series BONES can attest to, there was only one downside to a night over-flowing with love and laughter. That downside being, Tamara Taylor wasn’t in attendance. Luckily for this Canadian based TV Addict, Taylor was in her hometown of beautiful Toronto Canada to attend an important charity function. An function that afforded us with the unique opportunity for a little one-on-one time with everybody’s favorite fictional doctor Camille Saroyan. See of yourself, after the jump. ...

Inside TV's Spoiler Room: 6 April

Whatever happened to Booth’s brother? They had an episode where he got engaged to get married & that was the last we ever saw of him. Also since he’s about to be a grandpa will we be seeing more of Bones’ father (Ryan O’Neal)? Thanks. — BP
New gramps Max shows up in the April 30 episode, “The Family in the Feud.” (Well, that doesn’t sound good.) As for Jared (Brendan Fehr), it seems like any possible chance for a return went out the window last season when Brennan announced she was with child. “I’m pretty sure the one that we would’ve gotten to, had we had a normal length of a year would be some more Booth family stuff,” creator Hart Hanson said recently. “But those just went away, because of the shortened season and because we had these strong B stories, character stories connected to the baby.” So I guess you could say the baby’s to blame. Then again, we wouldn’t say that because what jerk blames a baby for something. They’re just babies! (I digress…) Anyway, I have high hopes for a return from Fehr eventually.

Executive Producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan Talk BONES and THE FINDER

Already renewed for Season 8, the Fox drama series Bones returns in a new timeslot on Mondays with all-new episodes, starting with a very untraditional arrival of Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) baby daughter. In “The Prisoner in the Pipe,” a neighborhood is on edge when remains are found in the sewer, identified as a male fugitive who escaped from the penitentiary for financial fraud, and Booth and Brennan turn to an inmate for clues about the murder.

During this recent interview to promote the return of the show, executive producers Hart Hanson (who is also executive producer of The Finder) and Stephen Nathan talked about what it will be like for Booth and Brennan to work together and have a baby together, how they decide when a recurring character will come back for a specific episode, how the arrival of the baby will change things (or not) for the characters, the decision to skip over showing the development of the Booth and Brennan relationship before skipping straight to the pregnancy, what’s to come for the other characters, what might happen to the four stand-alone episodes that are in limbo with the shortened season, and whether other cast members might appear on The Finder, if that series gets another season. Check out what they had to say after the jump: ...

On the Set: David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel Talk Bones Baby

Back in 2005, when a cocky FBI agent first joined forces with a bookish forensic anthropologist to solve crimes, David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel never could have envisioned their mismatched characters sharing not only a home, but also a baby, in the year 2012. But here both actors are, sitting for their first interview in Booth and Brennan's cozy new living-room set — complete with crib and stuffed animals strewn about the floor.

The series returned April 2 for the first of seven new episodes, with Temperance "Bones" Brennan and Seeley Booth already living together in anticipation of the birth of their baby daughter. Deschanel (the real-life mama of 6-month-old Henry) and Boreanaz invited TV Guide Magazine into their "home" to discuss the major changes Bones has undergone since their characters finally hooked up and Deschanel's real-life pregnancy was incorporated into the plot...

‘Bones’: An interview with Emily Deschanel and Michaela Conlin

Let me just start by saying I am completely and utterly obsessed with Bones. I started watching Bones last year, towards the end of my school year, however, after watching one episode, I always felt compelled to watch another. So I ended up watching five seasons and half of season six. In under two weeks. So when I got the opportunity to go to the Bones set and interview Emily Deschanel, I think I may have died for a short moment. And when I actually got to the set, I was offered to interview Michaela Conlin, who plays Angela Montenegro, and I about died a second time. And before you start reading the interview, know that my whole body was shaking on the inside and thought I might pass out. ...
